Great Cat Toys: Keeping Cats Busy for Hours with Inexpensive "Gifts"

Thomas H Forthe
Anyone who has ever had a kitten knows that there are only a few things it will need to keep it happy and healthy. Food and a litter box are prime requisites that go hand in hand since you really cannot have one without the other. Water is also on that list of dire necessities as is sleep, sleeping being their main pastime. They sleep so they can be fully awake when you are trying to sleep, repeat trying. The mere hint of a toe moving underneath the covers is more than any self respecting kitten can withstand and guaranteed to spice up one's sleep time with screams of agony as the kitten enjoys a game of mutilate the toes with razor like perfection.

There are several ways to wear a kitten down each being legal in all 50 states and humane. Cat toys can bring hours of fun, and if timed correctly, hours of blissful sleep to the kittens' new adoptees.

An empty paper bag from the grocery store can keep even a grown cat occupied much like a child with the box a toy came in on Christmas day. Cats love them as they make noises that increase the frenzy of the cat's attack to hilarious conclusions. Our cats have even gone as far as digging paper bags out of carefully thought out hiding spots, beating us at our own game of hide and seek the paper bag. Remember use only paper as plastic could end with tragic results.

The best cheap cat toy involves string and aluminum foil. Tie four or five feet of string around a foot or so of twisted foil and then crumple the remainder of the foil into a ball. Congratulations, you have just formed the ultimate cat toy, one guaranteed to tire out even the most energetic of kittens and one that causes the most laughs per dollar spent.

Pull it along the floor or swing it in the air it doesn't matter once the kitten figures out it's all in fun they will happily join in heart and soul. A big plus here is that they can get as rough as they like since your skin is not attached or at least not directly!

With a little practice you can have your kitten doing back flips in no time, just be sure to let them catch it now and then so they don't get bored with it. As a last precaution do not leave it out when you're not actively using it since they can get tangled up in the string.

There you have it. Two low cost, entertainment effective cat toys that will create hours of fun for both the kitten or cat and the adoptive humans.
