If you have a tight Christmas gift budget but you don't want to give cheap looking gifts here is a great Christmas gift idea that you can make for all the ladies in your family and circle of friends. This Christmas gift is inexpensive and fairly simple to create. What is the Christmas gift you ask? It is homemade Bath Salts. Pamper your family and friends will delicious smells and a way to relax with the homemade bath salts gift.

To make your homemade bath salts Christmas gift you will need the following materials: good sized metal or glass mixing bowl, two cups of Epsom salts, one cup of sea salt, coarse salt or rock salt, food colouring, ¼ teaspoon of Glycerin, essential oils for those lovely smells such a vanilla, lavender or peppermint, fully cleaned and dried jars that have screw on lids of cork stoppers and labels. One tip to keep in mind here is that you can use your creativity to dress up the jars. You could wrap the top with felt cloth or use ribbon. You can also use interesting and unusually shaped jars. The ingredients mentioned here will make three cups of bath salts.

After you have put together all of your materials it is time to make your homemade bath salts. It is better to make the bath salts gift on a day that isn't too humid, as the salt will absorb the moisture in the air.

Start off by mixing the sea salt (or coarse salt of rock salt) and the Epsom salt into your bowl. After you are happy that the salts have been well mixed choose the colour of your preference from your food colours and add a few drops to the salt and mix everything up well. Next put four of five drops of your chosen essential oil and the glycerin into the salts and mix up well. Then just scoop the salts up and fill up your jars, closing them up when they are full.

You can make labels to put on the jars by writing the scent on the label and including instructions to use around 1/3 to ½ a cup in a bath. Some ideas to dress up your homemade bath salts Christmas gift are to wrap the top or the entire jar with festive fabric, tie a ribbon around the top, tie a gift tag around the top, present them in a homemade festive gift bag, use smaller jars and different scents to give a selection of homemade bath salts in the gift.
