Great Christmas Gifts for Pets for Under $10

Susan Antonelli
Nowadays pets are part of the family. When we give gifts to our friends and acquaintences, if they have a pet we always include them.

Here are some nice ideas to please a pet for under $10.00.

A personalized Christmas stocking is always charming. I've seen them for cats and dogs. Some have little bones on them for the dogs or fish for the cats. If your friends have a Ferret or Bird you can pick up something cute to glue or stitch onto a plain stocking. You can buy glitter lue and write the pet's name on the stocking. Personalizing is always a nice touch and can be very inexpensive.

Clothing for pets. Every pet shop carries a line of wonderful sweaters and coats for dogs. The sizes are easy to find on the tags and usually have a weight chart in back if you're still not sure of what size to get. YOu can even find Santa outfits or Christmas collars and little Santa hats for dogs and cats.A new collar. SInce it's the Holidays a Holiday collar for a cat or dog is always cute. It gives them something to wear for family photographs or to wear if the family is hosting a party. You can get simple plaid or fabulous bling.

Speaking of bling you can now get the pets name in diamonds on a charm that slips on a collar. These run about $8.00 per letter so you can always get just the initial if you don't want to break the bank. My dog is Max so that wasn't too expensive to buy. There are also heart shapes, dog bone shapes and more if you want to keep it to the $8.00 limit.

If you are handy with a camera take a picture of the pet and frame it yourself. This makes a wonderfully personal gift.

There are always tons of treats that you can purchase and put in a pretty bag to attach to a house gift.

Ornaments. Many places sell ornaments that represent different breeds of dogs and cats. If you can't find just the right breed try picking up a clear ornament at JoAnn's or Michael's or any craft store and with a paint pen mark the pet's name on it. You could get a nice new bowl at any Dollar Tree and personalize that as well.

Stuffed toys are always welcomed since dogs get tired of their old toys. Chew bones and chew toys or rubber toys are just as nice. For cats there is always catnip stuffed toys. You can also purchase fresh catnip growing in a little pot.

My sister has a bird and I always get some fresh new toys for him. His name is Mr. Becker. For birds there are also bird treats and chews. Any pet store will have a bird area.

Ferrets are so popular now that there will always be a selection of toys and bedding for them in your local pet shop. You can also find nice harnesses for them. For the unusual pets like Tarantulas, Lizards, Iguanas if you feel like bestowing a gift on them you can provide food or again a personalized oranment for the tree. I have seen Santa hats for Iguanas. These are quite cute and great for photo ops.

A bag of biscuits makes an easy gift and if you're handy in the baking department you can find great biscuit recipes for dogs on line and cook up a batch. You can also find dog bone or hydrant shaped cookie cutters to give your biscuits extra charm.

For those people who have fish tanks you can purchase food blocks, a gift certificate for a new fish or some interesting rock ornaments for inside the tank.

Dog blankets and beds are a good gift depending on how attached to their present bedding the animal is.You can get a litttle bed for as low as $10.00 at places like Wal Mart , K Mart or even Walgreens.

Anyone who has a pet will enjoy a book about his or her special pet. If you go to book sales at your local library you can often find nice stories about pets. I just purchased Amazing Gracie on Half. com as a Christmas gift for a friend who loves animals. The price was well under $10.00 shipping included. A calendar specializing in a specific breed is also a good gift this time of year.

I would suggest you steer away from getting anyone a new pet. A gift like that requires the complete acceptance of the family receiving it and Christmas is a difficult time to try and introduce a pet to a new home. Including the pets that are already part of the family scene is very thoughtful and fun to do.
