Great Christmas Reads

Read and Give a Book This Christmas

Carolyn R Scheidies
As a reviewer with Author's Choice Reviews, I review five to ten books a month. While I review fiction and non-fiction books for all ages, some books I review are on very serious subjects. But as Christmas approaches, I love receiving Christmas themed books that lift up. This Christmas the books released are no exception. Following are several books released this Christmas that will entertain and lift up as well as bring us to the Christ of Christmas.

The spirit Santa Claus is real and he spent 18 years as a professional Santa at Stone Mountain, Atlanta, Georgia. In the book MORE PAGES FROM THE RED SUIT DIARIES Ed Butchart shares more Santa stories that will make you laugh, cry, and be fully convinced Santa Claus is alive and well. In his book, he also shares stories of reaching out to those with physical, mental and spiritual needs through the organization, Friends of Disabled Adults and Children (FODAC) he founded to do just that--reach out in a very real way. Christmas isn't complete without Santa Claus and this book is a true Christmas Santa read.

But Ed does more than simply portray Santa. He also shares the real story of Santa Clause-the bishop St. Nicholas as he draws us back to the Christ of Christmas. A Perfect complement to Christmas.

In the historical fiction Christmas book release ONE PERFECT GIFT by Kathleen Morgan, heroine Jesse has left everything behind in the East to take a job as nurse for a doctor in Colorado. When that job falls through she finds herself serving as in-home nurse for a stroke patient. Though most of the family welcomes her and her daughter with warmth, the couple's son does not. What lies behind his anger at her presence and will Jesse not only be able to discover the hurts in Sean's past but also be able to forgive hurts in her own? A Christmas story of faith in Christ, trust and forgiveness.

This is one of those short novels/books written for the Christmas season that just make you smile and leaves you with lots of warm fuzzies.

In the contemporary fiction book ENGAGING FATHER CHRISTMAS by Robin Jones Gunn, Miranda found not only her family in Britain, but also the love of her life the last Christmas. This Christmas promises to be more than she ever imagined, until her true connection with an important British family hits the tabloids. Will her dreams crumble under the onslaught or will she truly find the peace and grace she seeks?

A sweet, sentimental and altogether charming Christmas story. A nice sequel to last Christmas' book offering FINDING FATHER CHRISTMAS.

My own Christmas book offerings include the fun first reader WHERE IS CAT? as well as the book that could become a family keepsake HEART OF CHRISTMAS, which includes stories, anecdotes, poems, a child-friendly story of the birth of Christ, and lots of pages to include pictures and your own Christmas memories.

This Christmas draw your family into the tradition, fun and hope of Christmas with a great Christmas book. By the lighted tree, read together as a family and start a whole new tradition.
