Great Crock Pot Recipes

Mary Wensing Dvorachek
I love to cook with my Crock pot especially in fall, winter and on very hot and humid days. My house does not get to hot in the summer, and in the fall and winter, it does help warm up the kitchen, plus the house smells so good. All depending on what I am making.

I love to make homemade Chicken Soup with noodles, chili, hot tamale, beef stew, applesauce, beef roast and potatoes, chicken and potatoes. Just about anything you can make on top of your stove or in your oven, will work great in your Crock pot too. I like it because I can set it on low and leave the house, go shopping, and come home, raise the temperature and finish cooking the meal for supper. I have a nice size where I can either freeze some for later use. Or we have enough for a couple of days. My hubby can take some to work, and I have lunch for me as well.

Crock pots are nice to have on hand as well for taking to a gathering of friends or family. I make my Mom's Hot German potato salad, or my Mom's Hot Beef Roast for sandwiches and a way we go. Mom's Swedish Meatballs is another great one to just put together, brown in your fry pan and then put in the Crockpot make the gravy and let simmer.

If you have never tried cooking with a Crock pot, give it a try. It is great for Mom's, Dad's, kids in college, etc.

Our son took ours to college.

Crock pot Bratwurst for Grilling

Soaked bratwurst in beer butter and onions for 24 to 48 hours, then they cook them on the grill.

He also used it to warm up canned soups, and other foods that he took along.

Crock pot cooking is also great for the new wives or for those that really don't know much about cooking. Everything is done pretty much in the Crock pot. And you don't need to watch it much, set it on low and go back 4 or 5 hours later, and you have a complete meal, with out the worry.

Some things will need to be browned, like the meat, but not all the time.

Ken's Apple Caramel Crock Pot Dessert

5 apples ( I like to use a McIntosh, or Cortland apple)
1 C. apple juice
14 oz. caramel candies
2 t. vanilla
1 t. cinnamon
2/3 C. peanut butter

Peel, core and cut each apple into 16 wedges. Set aside.

Combine apple juice, caramels, vanilla and cinnamon in the crock-pot. Add the apples. Add the peanut butter by teaspoons to the apples. Stir.

Cook and cover for 5 hours on Low. Stir to mix thoroughly and cook 1 more hour.

Serve over angel food cake with vanilla ice cream.

Mom's Beef Stew

Brown beef stew meat (I use about 1 to 1/2 pounds beef stew meat) (or you can use a chuck roast)
with 1 Tbsp. Crisco or Lard and onion (about 1/2 of a small onion- I use about a Tbsp. of dried onion flakes)
add 2 glasses (8 oz) of water, carrots cut in chunks and potatoes cut in 1/4's)

Put in Crock pot on high and let cook all day. Once everything is tender, set on low and simmer until supper time. Then mix flour and water, salt and pepper and make your gravy. Pour the flour and water mixture in with the meat and veggies, turn back on high and stir good, and let thicken, if need be add more flour to thicken. I also add Kitchen bouquet for more of a brown gravy color.

Thanksgiving Turkey and Left Overs

I love to take left over turkey, dressing, potatoes and vegetables and reheat them in my Crock pot, I heat up the gravy on the stove. I set the temperature on love and let everything cook on low. If I don't want the potatoes and vegetables to mix with the dressing, then I just take a piece of aluminum foil and make a partition for the vegetables and potatoes. Sometimes I will take the left over cranberries as well and put them in aluminum foil and roll up the ends together to hold the cranberries in tight and lay on top of everything. When everything is done. I have a complete meal.

Chicken With Broccoli

4 lbs. boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut up
salt and pepper to taste
1 can condensed low-fat cream of chicken soup
1 8 oz low-fat cream cheese, cut into small pieces
1/4 cup chicken broth
1 small onion diced fine
mushrooms
garlic (optional)
broccoli, cut up

Put chicken, broth, onion, and garlic, salt and pepper in Crock pot and cook for 4 hours on low.

One hour before the chicken is done add, broccoli, cream cheese, cream of chicken soup, and mushrooms. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cook for one more hour. Serve with potatoes, rice or noodles.
