Calloway's Nursery is a huge concern that runs about 30 nurseries in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and San Antonia area. It also has other stores in the Houston area under the banner, Cornelius Nurseries. Today it is the largest garden center retailer in Texas. It sold its growing operation in 2003, however. This is the place to go for trees, shrubs, fertilizer and landscaping materials. Their specialty is bedding plants and special bulbs. Competitors are Home Depot and Lowes. While these larger stores may have a wider range of products they do not specialize as much nor do they have the quality of staff. About half of Calloway's employees are "certified nursery professionals." Calloway's has specials on a regular basis and their pricing is quite reasonable. To get these specials, just click on the web site and print out some of the coupon specials.

Covington's Garden Center and Nursery one of Dallas' largest retail and wholesale nurseries, is located at 5518 Liberty Grove Road, Rowlett, TX 75089/ 972-475-5888 eMail: ndunham@covingtonnursery.com They have 18 acres of some of the most quality plants in the metro-plex area. This is a great place for bargain hunters too since they have a half-price shot and a preferred customer's discount card. The retail selections include the best Monrovia stock. They have a new stock of Japanese Maples now in 17 different varieties, and are really pushing the new nursery-grown herbs. The half-price house is really a good idea because it encourages people to buy fresh plants so that the nursery can keep replenishing their stock with fresh new plants. Since Covington's is also one of Dallas' largest landscaping suppliers and companies, they give a lot of help with people who want some guidance for building their own gardens. Stop by and give them a look.
