Think Small
If you're looking for good deals and aren't tied down to the big resorts, consider Colorado's smaller resorts for some of the best skiing and cheaper prices. Ski Cooper, Monarch, SolVista Basin, Sunlight or Howelsen Hill Ski Area are some of the greatest ski areas you've never heard of. These ski areas are smaller than the big boys and a little out of the way in some cases, but offer world-class skiing for smaller prices.
What's more, if you buy a season pass from Ski Cooper, Monarch or Sunlight, you can show your pass from one and get a free ticket at the others, making this an incredible deal.
Go The Season
If you're a rabid skier, consider buying a season pass. The earlier, the better the deal. If you ski frequently, you'll earn back your money and more after six to eight visits, making a season pass the best deal of all. Some places, such as Arapaho Basin give discounts on food, ski classes and gear, making season passes some of the best deals around.
Buy Groceries
Insider information is a good thing. You can buy lift tickets directly from King Soopers or Safeway grocery stores across the Front Range at a discount price. The City Market grocery store in Dillon, Colorado which is central to a number of ski areas sells discount tickets to Keystone, Arapaho Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Vail and Beaver Creek.
Early and Late Season
Plan to ski early -- before the big tourist season -- and late -- after spring break. Resorts during these times are quick to offer excellent packages for early birds and late comers. In 2010, Powderhorn offers a night's lodging, dinner for two and lift tickets for two for a mere $209. Winter Park offers 20 percent off lodging on certain days in 2010.
Considerations
Check the ski area's website of your choice for specials frequently. Often ski resorts will offer discount packages for website visitors that you may not be able to get at the resort or through a travel agent.
