Great Dog: a Great Grooming Experience for Kona the Wheaten Terrier

Kona the Wheaten Gets Great Dog Grooming

Jo Adamson
Kona, (my son and his wife's Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier) is their pride and joy and yesterday Kona was taken to a doggie salon to have her hair cut.

Kona's silky hair grows fast, and after about six weeks it was time to have her groomed again. Brian took her to a new dog groomer because he was unhappy with the last one.

A wheaten's hair is similar to human hair and requires daily brushing. The silky hair grows fast, and required frequent trip to the grooming salon to keep tangles and knots from forming.

Brian is very particular about 'the love of his life'(next to his wife) and when she recommended that they try Great Dog (one of her friends at work suggested Great Dog in Seattle) Brian thought he'd give it a try.

A little "bark story"----- (as opposed to back story) of Great Dog.

According to the 'About Us" section of their web site, Great Dog opened its doors to the Seattle's canine community in February 2001.

It is Great Dog's mission to 'enrich the lives of dogs and the people who love them."

They claim that they emphasize with the customer's pet experience, and offer a large dog daycare. They see to it that your beloved pet has a great time being there.

(One of the reason my son said he stopped going to his regular dog groomer was that when he brought Kona back, she 'acted' a bit traumatized. Not so, with his experience with Great Dog, this time, Kona's winsome personality was unaltered.

This might be due to the fact of how Great Dog does business. They claim that they enrich each dogs lives 'through a series of cognitive projects (group and individual) canine education activities using positive methods and some dogs even get a "job" to do such as assist our Dog Enthusiasts (staff) with various activities.

Now, to the best of my knowledge, Kona wasn't given a 'job' while she was there but I'd bet she profited by those positive methods! (As wheaten owners will tell you, they're friendly and loving, but if not treated well, they will become withdrawn and pout.)

Because some dogs just need to "feel the dirt and twigs beneath their paws", in 2004 Great Dog launched a private 4-acre Adventure Park excursion to help satisfy their more active dogs.

Now speaking from direct experience (and many dog park visits) Kona lives to 'feel the dirt and twigs beneath her paws" and is unhhappy if the doesn't have that experience at least once a day.

When Brian brought Kona back from Great Dog he was happy with how good she looked and how 'good' she acted. (No pouting or withdrawing from him.)

When we saw Kona today, she never looked cuter! We made over her and told her how beautiful she looked and she in turn jumped up and gave us her famous 'wheaten greetin' as she licked our faces.

Or to put it another way-----

"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too." Samuel Butler

Great Dog, Great Experience

Great Dog was a Great experience for Kona and Brian as well. He said he would definitely take her back there for her next grooming appointment and use their other services as well.

I told him he should write a review for Great Dog and put it on their site, and he said, "Good idea, mom. I'll tell you my experience with Great Dog and then you can do it."
