Great Downtown Bars in Blacksburg, Virginia

The Cellar- is a restaurant/bar in Downtown Blacksburg. The Cellar has a lot of local & regional beers on tap including the Blacksburger, a pilsner brewer by a local Blacksburg citizen. The there are two floors with a bar on each floor. The bottom floor has several TVs that patrons can watch games on. Check their website to see what nights they will have live music night on. Blues Night offers live Blues music by local artists. While the top floor is quite crowded people come out and swing dance on these nights. The patrons at this bar are late 20's and up. Top of the Stairs- or more commonly called "TOTs". The bar got its name because its located at the top of the stairs, directly above Jimmie Johns. The bar has a great deck, that's even more attractive now that Virginia has the no smoking law. The deck can be enjoyed by non-smokers as well. TOTS has ties to Virginia Tech's Greek community. They have a lot of events here. They can be heard screaming and yelling on the deck during Rush Week. The crowd in this bar is more of the undergraduate set. They offer Karaoke on Thursday nights. They do have a couple of pool tables to enjoy with your drink. The bar has great drinks specials such as Miller Light in the bottle for $1.25 Monday- Thursday. Their signature drink is The Rail. Think Long Island Ice tea. It's a mix of several forms of alcohol. TOTs is my favorite place for Barbeque in the New River Valley. The Pork platter comes with your choices of 2 sides and coleslaw. I can never finish the whole meal. The pork is served with your choice of 4 sauces that you put on yourself. Come and check it out yourself:

River Mill- This bar is a favorite of Virginia Tech graduate students. The crowd at this bar is mellow and tends to be graduate student and older. The bar hosts local house DJ's Boogie Burg usually on Thursday nights. They go on about 10 pm and then the dancing starts. "The Mill" has several beers, specialty and local on tap and a large cooler with a variety of beers. They have two pool tables in the rear of the bar. They also offer a full menu. My favorite menu item is the loaded tater tots. This is a basket of tater tots with melted cheddar cheese, bacon pieces, and green onions served with a side of ranch dressing.
