Great Fall 2010 Fashions from Fendi

Mary Thatcher
Karl Lagerfeld has been designing for Fendi since 1965 and helped transform the company from one of strictly haute couture to having a ready-to-wear line for women all over the world. Fendi is not just worn by the jet setters but also women who have that discriminating taste in fashion. For the fall 2010 season, Karl creates garments with classic lines, minimal tailoring, and decoration with a few surprises here and there. The surprises to look for are cutout shapes with a few elegant accessories tossed in to complete the look. With the basic colors of black, gray, neutral and white in this ready to wear collection, there is something that can fit in practically every woman's wardrobe. The one bright color in this collection is yellow, and it is the shade seen on elm trees in the fall.

The black pants with a white shirt seen here are very casual, clothes you can wear while walking through SoHo. The light gray jacket has unconventional sleeves and can be easily combined with any other colored pullover shirt in your wardrobe. The model here wears boots which complement the fitted pants perfectly, but sneakers are just as fashionable with this outfit, too. For an additional accessory, try a pair of large hoop earrings. For something that can be worn to the office or a charity event, this light beige suit with pleats on the skirt, collar, and top is perfect for the fall season. The narrow dark beige belt adds a hint of color to the suit. The sleeves remind me of harem pants with the way they flow just below the elbow. For jewelry, silver is the metal you want to wear to create a striking contrast.

Coats are an essential part of every fall ready to wear collection and the long black coat seen here with a steel gray lining can be worn with casual daywear or elegant nightwear. The collar on this coat is simple and unaffected. The black sheath dress has simple lines, with a ruched waistline and a narrow black leather belt as the accessory here. I would add a bold gold necklace to the mix. The chocolate brown coat with a matching belt seen here combined with a yellow dress is a little more elegantly tailored and can be worn to the office.

The black pinstripe pattern dress here is a favorite, maybe because it has classic swing lines of the 1930's dresses. Chic and elegant, this is great for wearing to a charity lunch, or while out shopping. With this basic color, a wide variety of accessories can be used. The colors to wear in jewelry for this fall are red, purple, and green. Think bright beads with striking pendants. Save the more dainty jewelry for another garment.

Fendi fashions can be purchased through their boutique in New York City and Beverly Hills, and at Barneys, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
