"You Pick", also known as "pick your own" is a wonderful summer and early fall activity in the Boston Area. If you love fruits and vegetables, do not hesitate to get to a farm and get your hands dirty-- picking your own fruits and vegetables is a very satisfying activity. Not only do you get to hand pick each and every item, you also can also learn how its grown and be sure that it is perfectly fresh! Don't waste the summer months buying fruits and vegetables at the market when there are tons of farms in the area that allow you to pick your own. Here are a few highlights from the Boston area:

Ingladsby Farm

Ingaldsby farm is located in Boxford, MA, which is approximately a 45 minute drive from Boston. During their season, which runs from about April until December, the farm stays open for visitors to "you pick" from 8am until 6pm. Depending on the season, you can pick strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and also peas and some other vegetables. Always call ahead to check what produce is currently in season! They charge a nominal $2.50 per pound for the produce.

Lookout Farm is about 30 minutes from Boston and offer a huge variety of different fruits and vegetables for you pick. Check the chart on their website to find out when your favorite fruits and vegetables are in season. In the summer, they're open 10am-5pm. They do charge an entrance fee, but they also offer fun activities for kids like train rides, hay pyramids, and mazes.

Land's Sake farm is right outside of the greater Boston area, only about 20 minutes from the downtown area. Its an organic farm, so don't worry about eating your fill right at the farm! Like all farms, the produce available for pick your own changes with the seasons, so always call their hotline number to find out what is available currently. Generally they have blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries available in the summer and early fall.
