Great First Dates in Cincinnati!

The Fun, the Romantic, and the Adventurous

T.C. Hana
The first date is something a lot of guys work really hard to conjure up, and ideas that women talk about amongst their girlfriends. There has got to be more than dinner and a movie these days, and you just have to be creative. There are fun dates, romantic dates and then dates that requires a little more of an adventurous spirit.

The first date idea that I love, is going to dinner in Mount Adams then to Eden Park. If you have never been, you will understand why when you go. Mount Adams is just at the edge of Downtown Cincinnati, and thus got it's name from being one of the highest points of Hamilton County. You can't miss it either way, whether you are coming from across the river from Northern Kentucky, or if you are headed from the Ohio side into the city. For a night in Mount Adams, you can go to the Cincinnati Art Museum or go to the Blind Lemon an eclectic club among the hills. You will find an array of restaurants from the Mt. Adams Fish House, to the Teak Thai Cuisine. As you stroll the city streets you will find some interesting and eclectic boutiques. One we tend to favor is The Gilded Age, where you can find some handmade jewelry and abstract artwork. Stop for dinner at The Tavern on the Hill and then just a few miles off the hill you will find Eden Park. This is where my husband proposed to me in August of 2008. It's great at night, you can take a stroll through the park overlooking the river, and see the lights of the boats all shimmering on the river. It's a great sight to see, and a nice close to your evening.

The second first date idea for those who are looking for more of the fun evening, will enjoy a trip to the Union Terminal Museum. This Museum was originally known as the Museum of Natural History. Here you will find the history of the museum itself where you will see photos of it as a train terminal in the early days of Cincinnati. Upon entering, you will find the entrance that takes you to the main walkway that winds around where you can see the natural history with dinosaurs and plant life, ancient history and some world history. While you are there, you can get tickets to the IMAX theater where there is always a feature film or documentary. This theater goes up and back, so you are almost leaning back a little in your seats as the whole screen is the surrounding wall, circling all the way around you. This Museum is right off of I-75, and leaves the options for dinner wide open.

Last but not least, we really love Newport on the Levee. There is always something going on at the Levee, but if you are heading out on a Saturday night go in the late afternoon or early evening. Parking is generally scarce if you go later in the day so beware. If you go early in the afternoon though, you can have quite a first date. Here you will find the Newport Aquarium, a movie theater, some dance clubs, and a wide array of restaurants. There is fine dining with Mitchell's Fish Market, and you can also grab a pizza at Dewey's or go German at The Hoffbrau Haus. The Hoffbrau Haus is actually a twin to the original in Munich, Germany and the food is fantastic. In the center of the plaza level which is the main walkway, you will also see a Coldstone Creamery where you can treat your sweet, and some shopping as well.

Whatever date you choose, these three options are sure to please and just remember no matter what to have a good time!
