Great Gift Ideas for the Crazy Cat Lady

What Can You Give a Cat Lover that Would Be Purrfect for Them?

Julia Williams
If living alone and preferring the company of cats to a spouse or children makes someone a Crazy Cat Lady, then I guess I qualify. However, I don't have a gazillion cats - I only have three! People who have yet to be smitten by a kitten might say that's three too many, but never mind. As a Crazy Cat Lady, I feel qualified to give suggestions for gifts that cat lovers would enjoy. If you know someone who likes cats and you're wondering what to give them for Christmas or their birthday, this list should give you some ideas.

Crazy Cat Lady Merchandise

Would you be surprised to learn that there are countless products you can buy online that have the Crazy Cat Lady label on them? These items were likely inspired by the stereotype of the lonely old woman with a house full of cats. For example, the Crazy Cat Lady Board Game has four goofily clad women with funny expressions on their faces. Naturally, the winner of the game is the player who collects the most cats.

The Crazy Cat Lady Magnetic Sculpture Kit includes a figure and 12 metal cats that stick to her, and the Crazy Cat Lady Action Figure comes with six cats. The Crazy Cat Lady Nightshirt features a cute illustration on the front.

Cat Books

Books make great gifts for cat lovers because they are easy to wrap and inexpensive to ship to long-distance friends. Plus, smaller books can be tucked into Christmas stockings. There is no shortage of books about cats, books featuring cats or books written for cat lovers, such as the hardcover title Outing the Cat Lady: Embracing Your Feline Addiction with Style.

Other favorite cat books of mine include Catwings,by Ursula K. Le Guin, which chronicles the adventures of four kittens who were born with wings. There are three sequels to Catwings, and the series is called the The Catwings Collection. They're billed as a children's book (for ages 7 to 10) but I'm certain that anyone who loves cats will enjoy these books.

One of the funniest cat books I've ever read was All I need to Know I Learned From My Cat, written and adorably illustrated by Suzy Becker. It features sage advice dispensed by Binky, a delightful feline who does hilarious things that all cat owners will be familiar with.

Cleveland Amory's The Cat Who Came for Christmas is a classic cat book that was on the New York Times bestseller list for many years after it was first published, in 1987. It's a true tale of the author's first eventful year with Polar Bear, a bedraggled stray cat he rescued and came to love for all his many quirks.

Gifts for Cats

What better gift could there be for a Crazy Cat Lady, than something for the felines she obviously adores? Luckily for you, there is an abundance of products made for cats. You can go the comfort route, and get them a nice plush cat bed or a cozy window perch to sleep in. Another great gift for cats is an elevated feeder, which lets them eat at the perfect height. This is especially helpful for cats with arthritis, neck or back problems.

Most cats don't drink enough H2O. A fountainprovides a continuous flow of water, which motivates many kitties to drink more often. Another plus is that most water fountains for cats feature a filtration system to remove impurities and make the water taste better.

Catnip-filled soft toys, furry mice, small balls that jingle when they roll, and other fun toys make nice little gifts for cat lovers that won't break your budget. If you shop the after-Christmas sales at your local pet store, you can pick up a gigantic bag full of cat toys for next to nothing! I do this every year, and save them to give to my cat-loving friends the following Christmas.

As you can see, there are a lot of great gifts for the Crazy Cat Lady. Take it from me - any of these items will be the cat's meow!

I started to have cats as pets when I was only 4 years old. My first cat was Rebecca. I cried rivers of tears when she died.

I love the article. Thanks for posting this. I am a Cat Lover. I was at Starbucks Coffee (by the way I am from Manila, Philippines) having coffee (of course!) with a friend, and I saw a stray kitten walking on the pavement, probably looking for her mother or food to eat. She must be hungry. And she's very skinny. I meowed at her, and I think she knew someone liked to cat-talk with her. She couldn't locate where's the meow-sound coming from. I felt sorry for the stray kitten. But then, after a few minutes, I found her underneath our table. She found me!!! I wanted to adopt her. So I placed her on another vacant chair. My friend Angela told me "I didn't know you really like cats!" I said, "Oh I love cats!" I said I would love to adopt the stray kitten, and would give her a bath as soon as we get home. But too bad, after a few minutes, the kitten's missing! She must have left when she realized I had no food to give her. Because that time, I only had coffee. I didn't have much money to buy
