Great Gift Ideas for Nursing Home Residents

Anne Bowen
It's not too early to begin holiday shopping and planning. It may be that someone you love is a resident of either a nursing home or an assisted living center ... or perhaps you have volunteered to provide a "Giving Tree" Yuletide gift suitable for such a person. There is a rich assortment of ideas to choose from, including:

New pairs of soft white socks

A new wallet loaded with spending money (or a change purse filled with coins)

A new tote bag (senior citizens often carry tote bags around with them during the day)

A medium-sized flashlight (and a package of batteries) because confusing power outages sometimes occur even in nursing homes and Assisted Living Centers

New pajamas, robe, or nightgown

New sweater, tee shirt, or sweat shirt

A small portable CD player or portable radio with headphones

An "audio" book (to listen to, instead of read) or paperback books

Favorite toiletries, colognes or lotions

Favorite snacks or treats

Alarm clock with large numbers that light up and can be read in the dark

Timex wristwatch

Just a Reminder:

Most of all, someone who lives in a Nursing Home or Assisted Living Center would enjoy a holiday visit from someone they love. You might be surprised - it could turn out to be a lot of fun.
