Great Gifts for Gardeners

Need to Find the Perfect Gift for that Friend Who Loves to Garden?

Kylyssa Shay
A Thoughtful Gift Basket Without The Basket

You'll need:

Garden Gloves

An Organic Gardening Magazine, a Burpee Seed Catalog, Horticultural Digest, or similar publication

Hand cream

Sunscreen

Seed packets

Small gardening tools such as a trowel, mini hoe, etc.

A flower pot, anything from plain, cheap terracotta to a hand crafted object d'art

First put the magazine or catalog in the flower pot curved against the back, facing forward. Then add the gardening tools, gloves, hand cream, sunscreen and seed packets. If the pot seems under filled add some decorative moss or wood shred to puff up the contents. Set the flower pot in the center of a large sheet of cellophane, gathering the ends of the clear wrap over the top of the contents. Tie it off with a bow and attach a gift tag and another seed packet.

Clever and Simple

You'll need:

A watering can

A gift certificate to a local nursery or garden supply store

Some colorful tissue paper

A gift tag or card or a seed packet

A piece of thin ribbon or balloon string

Bunch up the tissue paper inside the watering can. Put the gift card into the watering can. Tie the gift tag or card onto one of the watering can's handles using a piece of ribbon. For a cute and clever touch you can write "to" and "from" on a seed packet and attach it instead of a card or tag.

Sweet as can be

You'll need:

Assorted cookies and sweets, homemade or store bought

Season themed or foil wrapped candy novelties

Colorful cellophane

Garden knee pad

Saran wrap or foil

Ribbon

Gift tag or card

Wrap the foam knee pad in foil or plastic wrap. Arrange the cookies sweets on top of the kneeling pad and wrap with the cellophane and ribbon. Decorate the present with individually wrapped seasonal or themed candy tied to the ribbon along with the gift card or tag. Some candies that work well for this are candy canes, chocolate Easter bunnies, foil wrapped hearts, or any seasonal or holiday novelties.

A Window Garden

You'll need:

A long and narrow plastic, terracotta or ceramic planter

Three to five potted herbs, usually available in most produce departments or retail greenhouses

Decorative moss

Clear cellophane

Ribbon

Clear tape

Select as many herbs as will comfortably fit in the planter while still inside their individual pots. Keeping the herbs in their individual pots place them attractively in the planter using decorative moss to wedge them in and to cover the soil. The idea here is that many plants require slightly different care and will benefit both from having their own container and the excellent drainage this sort of set up allows. Wipe off any spilled soil or excess moss and set the planter in the center of a generous sheet of clear cellophane. Gather the ends of the clear wrap over the top of the contents using clear tape if necessary to hold it in place and tie it off with the ribbon making a bow - just like tying shoes. Sign and attach the gift tag or card.
