Great Gifts for Grandparents

Grandparents are special people! Most kids want to be able to give special gifts to these very important people in their lives. There are a lot of gifts kids can actually make for their grandparents but that is the subject for another article. The gifts in this article are practical and fun for kids to give and grandparents to receive.

Grandparents usually love to look at photos of their grandchildren so anything with a photo on it will make a great gift. For those grandparents who use a computer, a mouse pad with a photo of the grandchildren is quite cute. Many photo labs including Walmart and CVS to name just two, will print any photo you bring in onto a mouse pad. Online companies such as VistaPrint and PhotoWorks will also print your own photo onto a mousepad. Best Buy offers a mousepad that you can slip your own photo into a clear pocket on the top of the mouse pad.

There are other cute items that can be imprinted with a photo. Many photo labs and online companies will offer such items as Christmas Tree Ornaments, T-shirts, coffee mugs, tote bags and so many more items. These items can run as little as $5 per item all the way up to very expensive items. They can be made at local stores such as Walmart or drug stores with a photo lab or they can be purchased online by downloading a photo.

Another really great photo gift is a calendar. These can be made on the home computer and bound at a place like Kinko's or Staples or you can buy kits to put them together and send away to have the calendar made or you can take your photos to a printing place like Kinko's or Staples or even Walmart and have them totally make the calendar for you. I personally like to make the calendars myself because then I am not limited to the number of events I can put on dates on the calendar. I like to print out each calendar to be uniquely designed for the person receiving it. Using photos and borders from a program like Printmaster, one can design a custom made calendar in as little as an hour and it will be a gift that will be cherished all year long!

Speaking of photos, grandparents will need a place to put all of those school photos and other pictures that they are always being given (if they are not turned into useful things such as mouse pads, etc!). Therefore picture frames in various sizes and designs are always a useful gift for grandparents to receive. There are many unique types of frames such as cube frames that can sit on a table or you can purchase plain or fancy frames to hang on the wall. If your child is into making gifts, you can even buy plain wooden frames and have the children design their own creative photo frames!

Jewelry always makes a great gift for grandparents. One can personalize a gift for grandmother by purchasing a bracelet or necklace with the birthstones of her grandchildren. Or there are charm bracelets and necklaces that have little children with birthstones in them that can be used to personalize the jewelry. For grandfathers, charms of kids can be made into tie tacks, money clips or cuff links as well!

A subscription to a favorite magazine or even a "Cake of the Month Club" makes for a year long gift that seems to keep on giving. For those with extra time, you can even create your own gift of the month club and send your own gifts each month to the grandparents. This can be as simple as a cake a month (or any baked dessert) or even a meal a month if you live close enough to deliver each month. If you do not want to send food, you could send flowers each month and have the grandchildren help pick out the types of flowers to be sent each time for a wide variety of hand picked gifts that keep giving. Such gifts will let the grandparents know that you are thinking of them all year long!

Grandparents are usually very happy with anything that the grandchildren give to them. Giving them something useful is a great idea though and so easy to do. With a little creative thought and some of the ideas above, you can make your grandparents something they will love to use or look at every day.
