Great Gluten Free Snacks You'll Find at the Grocery Store

Add Them to Your Grocery List!

Yvonne M. Glasgow, Ph.D.
When it comes to snacks gluten-free may seem like something difficult, especially if you like to eat crackers. But, there are a lot of alternatives that are just as tasty and a lot more healthy for you. I have compiled a list of my favorite, store bought, gluten-free snacks. Here they are:

Quaker Quakes Rice Snacks

These little snacks are wonderful. They are perfect for whenever you have the munchies, and their variety of flavors is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth. Current flavors to chose from are Cheddar Cheese, Caramel Corn, Apple Cinnamon, Chocolate, Ranch, Kettle Corn, Sour Cream & Onion, BBQ, Nacho Cheese and Honey Nut. My favorites are ranch, cheddar cheese, and chocolate- but you will need to find your own favorites!

According to Quakers website "these satisfying snacks are made with real grains and baked to crispy perfection. With 11 tempting flavors, and 70 calories or less per serving, they'll conquer any craving. (7 to 10 cakes per serving)" And that statement rings true, in my book anyway!

Rice Works Chips

Rice Works Chips are by far my favorite thing to snack on. They are rich in flavor and very satisfying. They are even great with hummus! Current flavors to chose from are Sweet Chili, Sea Salt, Salsa Fresca, Baked Cinnamon, Parmesan & Sun Dried Tomatoes and, their newest flavor, Tangy BBQ.

Rice Works include all "natural ingredients, no preservatives, no artificial flavors, wheat & gluten free, low in saturated fat, 12 grams of whole grain per serving, source of fiber, no trans fats (0 grams), 33% less fat than potato chips, no cholesterol, vegan & celiac friendly" and are kosher certified, according to their bag and website.

Mission Tortilla Chips

This is my favorite brand of tortilla chips, because they are not to hard, like some are. Mission corn tortilla chips come in rounds, triangles and strips. Their ingredients include "Ground Corn Treated with Lime, Water, Vegetable Oil (contains one or more of the following: Cottonseed Oil, Corn Oil, Palm Oil), Salt."

Nuts

Nuts are a great source of energy and they are a healthy snack too. Only eat them in moderation, as they can have a bit of a high fat count. Skip on peanuts, but go for cashews, almonds, hazelnuts and pistachios. Pecans and walnuts are good choices too. Find a brand that you like and stick with it! Go for as little salt content as possible for best health benefits.

Popcorn

Last, but not least, grab yourself a bowl of popcorn. I love microwave popcorn and my favorite, by far, is Orville Redenbacher's Natural Popcorn. Your flavor choices include buttery Salt & Cracked Pepper, Simply Salted, Butter and Lime & Salt. These great varieties contain less butter and salt than a lot of the microwave popcorn choices out there. Always avoid movie theater butter flavored popcorns, unless you want cottage cheese hips!
