The benefit of this product made it shine above the other protein powders available in health food stores. This product is certified organic whereas most protein powders of any type are not. For unyielding organic shoppers, this is important, as it should be for anyone concerned about the quality of the nutrients they are absorbing. Another potentially important factor is the stuff from which this is made - hemp. Anyone looking to improve their protein intake with a powder but concerned about using whey protein or soy protein because of allergies or just in the interest of avoiding these ingredients, hemp protein provides the benefits without the concerns. This product is also gluten-free and contain no genetically modified organisms. While this is not likely to be a product available in GNC or at the local grocery store, the Whole Foods Market and similar stores is more likely to carry it (or you may find a similar product of a different brand).
Consider the following straightforward review of the pros and cons.
First, the cons - they are few. The cost of purchasing this product regularly can be stifling. Naturally, prices vary from store to store, and shopping around may alleviate this to some extent. Prices to this writer's knowledge range from about $14 to $20 for a 16 ounce container that will last approximately 15 days if used according to the given serving sizes. However, since a protein shake may serve as a meal replacement, the cost may indeed be cheaper than the cost of a meal. Another con, as discussed earlier, is the fact that Manitoba Harvest products are not widely available and may be hard to find in many health food stores. Keep in mind that larger chains like Whole Foods and Sprouts are more likely to carry this product, while smaller health food stores may be willing to order it on request.
The pros are many. As already mentioned, protein powders in general are easy ways to supplement your diet. This product in particular has a nutty taste that may take some getting used to (a possible con for some). The key is finding the most pleasing drink, smoothie or shake recipe. Try blending about a cup of water, juice, or milk (or substitute if needed), one banana, 2 tablespoons of applesauce, and any other fruits with 2 to 4 tablespoons of the powder. An even more simple recipe is a simple mixture of 2 ounces of plain unsweetened applesauce, 6 ounces of milk (or substitute) and 2-4 tablespoons of the powder in a cup. This is quick, easy, and surprisingly good. Another benefit is the fiber that comes along with every serving. Not only that, each serving provides 1200 mg of omega-3 fatty acid, the good fat that many diets lack.
This product is a great addition to anyone's diet. Adding protein without an abundance of extra calories and fat is a good recipe for building a muscle and shaping the attractive bodies for which so many are searching. Beyond that, this product goes a long way toward providing the good health that every person needs without excessive time and energy. This product is well worth the cost.
