Great Halloween Costumes for Lesbians or Bisexual Women

This Halloween, be a hit at your favorite GLBT club or just a friend's Halloween party with a costume that celebrates yours lesbian lifestyle. Whether you're going solo or as a lesbian couple, these costume ideas are sure to get your friends' attention.

Steal the thunder from your male gay friends by going as a Drag King. Choose famous male entertainer and buy or make your costume. Budget wise, your money is best spent on the details, like realistic facial hair, sideburns, and make-up to roughen up your skin. Watch videos of your character and practice impersonating his voice and actions, including the typical male walk and swagger. Or create your own Drag King character by incorporating male stereotypes and a "punny" name.

Grab a white lab coat and some scrubs and go as a gynecologist. Buy a speculum at a medical supply store. To go as a "sexy" gyno, wear a sexy club outfit underneath your costume's white medical coat. Make a name badge with a funny name for your Halloween character. To add a little more humor, use a battery operated light to make a head lamp.

Switch up your normal gender style. If you're normally a more feminine lesbian, consider wearing a short wig and baggy masculine clothes, or going all out as a Harley riding, construction worker. If you're normally the more masculine type, give your friend's a laugh by dressing a sexy slip dress with heels and full-on makeup. Halloween is all about having fun and being something a little different.

Lesbian girls similar to straight girls in at least one way: they all love a sexy uniform. Choose a military (Navy or Army), UPS, sailor, firefighter, police, or any other uniform you can rock as a sexy lesbian.

Famous lesbians Pick a lesbian or bi-sexual rocker like Ani DiFranco, Melissa Etheridge, Nelly Furtado, Melissa Ferrick, the Indigo Girls, Janis Joplin, or kd lang. Or go for a famous lesbian or bisexual actress like Angelina Jolie, Cynthia Nixon (Miranda from Sex in the City), Ellen, Portia de Rossi or Sara Gilbert (who originally played Darlene on Rosanne). Other famous lesbians from history include Frida Kahlo and Phyllis Lyon.

Finally, any of the famous lesbian characters found on reality shows like Survivor, the Real World or America's Next Top Model make great fodder for a humorous Halloween costume. Try to watch a few rerun to mimic the most prominent features of the character you choose and act the part during Halloween.

On Halloween, give a nod to current politics by going as a bride/bride or groom/groom couple with your sweetie. Or rent a wheelchair and dress up as Phyllis Lyon and her long-term partner Del Martin - the first lesbian couple legally married in California.
