1. Pumpkin
Half a pumpkin and de-seed it. Lay the halves face down onto a baking sheet that is at least 2 inches deep and is filled with at least an inch of water. Bake at 375 for one hour or until the pumpkin is soft when pressed against. Scrape out the pumpkin from the skin and place it in your blender and set to puree level. Sprinkle in some cinnamon for added taste.
2. Sweet Potatoes
Baking sweet potatoes is a great way to get your child to love a new food. Set the oven to 400 degrees. Poke your sweet potatoes at least two times on each side with a fork and then wrap with tin foil. Bake for at least 40 minutes, but may take up to an hour before they are soft to the touch. Remove skins by slitting on side of the sweet potato and then peeling the skin off. Mask the potato in a large bowl and then sprinkle a teaspoon or two to the potato for added flavor. Once mashed, placed the sweet potato into the blender and set it to puree mode. You may need to add water to your potatoes to thin them out a bit more. Add a tablespoon at a time until they are thinned out to your preference.
3. Avocados and Bananas
My little boy absolutely loves these two things combined. I am not sure why, but it works and I know it is very healthy for him.
Peel and de-pit a ripe avocado. Cut out the avocado meat and mash with a fork in a large mixing bowl. Peel a banana and cut into pieces into the avocado you just mashed up. Mash with your fork a little bit more to get the big chunks out of your way. Add all to the blender and put it on puree and shut off the blender once you have reached the desired texture. The sweetness from the banana gives the avocado added flavor.
You can also do these two items into two separate recipes. Most anything at the age of 4 to 8 months can be pureed. You just need to remember when making your baby food at home that you stick with items that are more liquid then solids. They are not fully teethed yet, so it is harder for them to chew. If you stick with mainly fruits and vegetables you will be just find. Cook most of your vegetables before pureeing them though!
