Student, back-packers and thrifty travelers everywhere are enjoying overnight accommodations at a fraction of the cost of hotels. Biking and back packing trips are used to enjoy the scenery and learn about local cultures and customs. Most often these trips are taken by students and others with limited budgets. Hostels are accommodations much like hotels but with shared rooms similar to dormitories and most often have some sort of supervision. Lavatories are shared and curfews are enforced. There are many hostels across the United States that makes the wander lust of young college students much more affordable.

Florida has a plethora of hostels. Gram's Place Hostel in Tamp is also a great place for music lovers. The rooms are music themed and there is a fun simulated railroad depot functioning as a co-ed dorm. Rooms are in the $20 - $50 range and include use of the swimming pool and jacuzzi. There is BYOB pub and a sunning deck which makes staying there like a vacation in its self. Enjoy the walkways, flower gardens and all the flora and fauna that Florida is famous for.

If your planning a trip through California you will have plenty of choices in hostels. The Monterey Hostel has family quarters as well as traditional dorm style accommodations. It is located near the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. Bus lines run near this hostel and there are many famous hiking trails near for all levels of expertise. There is 24 hour security at this facility as well as a self serve kitchen. Pianos, guitars, books and games are all made available for guest use.

The Headwaters Hostel in Minnesota is a picture of perfect scenery. There are many hiking trails and scenic bike ways to enjoy during a stay here. There six rooms here with four to six beds a piece. These rooms can also be rented by families or groups for extended privacy. Alternately, the entire hostel can be reserved for a total of 31 beds.

It is best to reserve a bed at a hostel before travelling there. Registering with the Hostelling International or HI/IYHF is beneficial for frequent hostel guests. They issue membership cards that entitle the bearer to discounts and other extras. Hostels belonging to this organization often require guests to vacate the rooms during the day and have strict curfews. Alternately, there are several independent hostels across the country. They are owned by small groups or individuals and most often have less restrictive rules.

Research hostels online in the states you plan to visit and search for online discounts. Call and ask for their specific rules and regulations so your not surprised by anything your not prepared to do.

Hostelling is a great and economical way to see the country and meet new people. With minimal care and effort you can enjoy your trip at half the cost of motel stays.
