Great Idea for Marking Milestones: Scrapbooks

Sharon Early
A great gift idea for a graduate or someone who is reaching a milestone in their lives is a scrapbook or memory book which you start by putting in photos clippings, art, and letters to that person. Leave at least half of the scrapbook empty so that there is room for them to add to this work in progress. You don't have to spend a lot of money to show someone that you care or that their personal triumphs are important and relevant to you. It is also a great gift for students who are just starting college, especially if they are going to school away from home. It is a great way to connect with your student when you visit them or they come home for a visit. It is an ongoing project in which both you and they can exhibit your creativity and your life. It is also good for parents to review their childs life away from home and the things that are important to them like friends, events, awards, photos, and anything else that is "going on" with them.

Once the scrapbook is completed it will become a cherished keepsake and memory book of the formative time in their lives as they worked toward becoming whatever it is that they want to be. A scrapbook like this can also be a tool for remembering when and who on down the road. They will never forget who gave it to them and they will also never forget the precious moments that it chronicles. Scrapbooking is truly a gift that keeps on giving and it keeps your child or friend in touch with where they have come from and the people or person who loves them and celebrates their lives with them the joy, the pain, and all of the learning experiences that can't be taught in a classroom and that should not pass into memory without being marked or chronicaled. Plus presenting a student with a scrapbook though not an expensive gift,(it is more a secondary gift that will grow in value in time, not monetary value but this gift will become more precious than money in the years to come,)really shows a person that you know and love who they are and where their going. It also touches the heart because it shows that you "know" and that you care about their lives. That is important first because you do, and secondly because it shows them that you do care.
