Great Inventions of Our Time: The Easy Button by Staples

Nick Winters

Of all the inventions of our day, there is one that stands a step above the others. It makes life easier and more rewarding and all at the touch of a button. It's cheap, easy to operate, and doesn't use much energy. It has single-handedly revolutionized the way Americans think and work in all aspects of their lives. This invention is the Easy Button.

The original concept of the Easy Button was a marketing campaign by Staples, the office supply superstore. But once they realized what an effect this idea would have on the lives of all Americans, they set out to make the idea a reality. Soon came the first working model of the Easy Button. Though primitive in construction and operation, this original model was the starting point for something great. It was tested and perfected until the one we see today came about and was put into mass production for nationwide distribution.

The Easy Button is a simple piece of technology. Most great inventions are simple, after all; fire, the wheel, nuclear energy, all simple. It is comprised of a large red button on which is written "easy" in bold, white, lower-case letters. This button is set in a silver body which contains the two AA batteries that power this great machine as well as its speaker. When depressed, this button causes the speaker to emit, in a resounding and satisfied voice, "That was easy."

You can put the Easy Button to work in your own life in any number of different situations. Say you just had a tough meeting at work and as you flop back into your chair in your cubicle you tap the Easy Button. "That was easy." Now you're ready to put that success behind you and move forward with an awesome day. Or say you just had a fight with your girlfriend and finally managed to make up. As you lay back in your recliner with that ice cold beer in one hand and the remote in the other, you tap the Easy Button. "That was easy." Now you're ready to sit back and watch the game with the knowledge that you have an amazing relationship with the woman of your dreams. These are only two examples of the power and simplicity of the Easy Button in everyday life.

The Easy Button can be used for everything and anything in your life. As an Easy Button owner, I most certainly recommend it. When I began using the East Button in my life I was a poor, homeless college student. Now I'm a multi-millionaire with mansions in three states (Results may vary, subject to user's imagination). "That was easy." So the next time you're feeling down and out, stop by your local Staples, pay the five dollars, and get your own Easy Button and you too can be as successful as the rest of us. Thank you Staples for inventing one of the great inventions of our time.

"That was easy."
