Great iPhone Apps for Kids

Lisa Mason
If you have an iPhone then you might already know about the vast variety of applications available. If you also have kids, then you need to know about these great iPhone apps for kids - many of them completely free!

If your kids want to use your phone, or if you just need to keep them quiet and occupied for a bit while you take care of things, here are some of the best iPhone apps for kids:

The Pianist - This app is great for ages 4 and up and will instantly transform your iPhone into an 88-key piano for fun and enjoyment. When the keys are touched, they go down just as they would on a real piano and the note plays in perfect pitch. Your little ones who are taking piano can practice at any time and with headphones on, it does not have to disturb the entire family. At $3.99 this handy little app can keep the kids entertained for hours.

Scribble - When it comes to free apps, Scribble is one of the best around. It is perfect for kids four years and older. Those who remember the old Etch-a-Sketch can appreciate this app that goes one step further. Instead of using knobs to draw the picture, the children can use their fingers or a stylist to create pieces of art. There are also many tools to change the colors and textures. Where the Etch-a-Sketch reference comes in is when they are done, simply shake the phone to erase and start over.

Wooo! Button - The Woo Button is another free app. It does not have the artistic fun of some of the other apps, but it can bring delight and plenty of giggles to the kids. All it does is scream the word "Wooo" any time the button is pushed. It is not known why, but they love hearing the fiftieth time as much as they enjoy it the first. This game can be downloaded at iTunes.

Airport Mania: First Flight Lite - Any child or adult for that matter that enjoys airplanes and flying can get into this free app. The premise of the game is easy. Just get the passengers to where they need to go on time. They can get new and bigger airplanes and can even choose which movie the passengers can watch during the flight.

Memory Match: Child Development Edition - This is a simple memory game that is typically found with cards. Instead of having cards to get a mess all over the place, this game offers the same game play but on your iPhone. At $1.99 it is well worth the price.

Penguin Whacker - This is a take on the Whack-a-Mole game that is found at many amusement parks and carnivals. The only difference is there is a penguin that is whacked and it is the little one's fingers doing the whacking. This is a free app and is designed for kids 4 and older.

Freshwater Aquarium - There are those kids who just love fish and aquariums. If your little one is a fish lover then this free app should offer them hours of delight. They can feed the fish and then watch them get bigger. There are also other games within the app and nineteen separate species of fish.

While mom and dad may have their favorite apps on their iPhone, the best iPhone apps for kids may muscle out the apps mom and dad use. They may love them so much that you never get your iPhone away from them!

I had one, and I can't remember what it was called, but it had little cute animals all over it. When Abby touched the screen the animal would move and make noise. She loved it!
