Great Lash Mascara - The Pink and Green Lie

Lisa Ross
This mascara is really overrated. Somehow it ends up in beauty magazines time and time again as a recommendation for a great mascara. I don't understand this. Yes, it is affordable. But there are cheaper mascaras available. I haven't tried them all, but I'm sure they're better than this stuff.

After I bought it and tried it, I ended up throwing it away. It was a flaky, clumpy mess. I had seen the pink and green tube in magazines so many times that I wondered why I had never purchased it. I didn't even need a mascara at the time. But I thought "why have I never tried this?" and felt compelled to buy Great Lash.

The packaging makes it stand out. In my case, it got my attention and I decided to finally try it. The reality is it clumps terribly and takes forever to dry. It also smudges easily and its smell is none too pleasant.

For a product that wants to flake off so badly, it's difficult to remove. HAving to really scrub at the eye area is not good skin care.

I suppose magazines get adverising money by promoting some of these things. I know that if I see an article titled something like "Best Beauty Buys" that I'll see Great Lash Mascara featured. This leads me to believe that some of the other products featured aren't as great as they claim. In fact, the whole magazine is an ad structured around a little informative content and perfume samples.

Perhaps this product was once good and they changed the formula. I somewhat doubt that makeup artists working the red carpet and on movie sets are using this. Just tell us what they really use so we can replicate the look ourselves and not think something's wrong with us. I know it's probably not in my price point but if I'm really interested I might splurge.

Just like its reputation moves product off the shelves, these canned beauty articles move magazines off the shelves. You are more likely to find useful ideas on a makeup message board, but that is harder to take with you to the beach. Hence the beauty magazines having an audience.

If you are truly interested in trying inexpensive makeup, check out E.L.F. Each of their items is only $1. You won't be risking much, and they have to be better than Great Lash mascara

I have been using this mascara for a very long time and have never had any of the problems people say they have had. I have been using it for over 15 years AT LEAST. the tube im now on Ive had for maybe close to 3 years. And it still works as good as the day I got it! I think this is a good mascara for darking but not to make your lashes look longer. Since I have super short bottom lashes I like this to make them darker... I generally will put on false lashes on top, so I dont really need mascara on top! But I just wanted to give my 2 cents on this wonderful mascara.

Experienced this a year or two back.
I now use the guide of "If it looks unprofessional, don't buy it"
Anything brightly coloured or anything coloured in a way that looks cheap (in my opinion, the pink and green) I don't purchase, UNLESS I'm aiming for a more punk or out there look, but that's generally the colour of the actual product, not it's packaging.
And generally, you pay for what you get, so anything that is actually a cheap price is most likely a cheap and poor product. Can't make that mistake too many times!

I always read that makeup artists recommend Maybelline Great Lash, but I'm not a fan of it, either. I really like Maybelline Full and Soft, though!
