Great Mexican Restaurants in San Diego
Neighborhood: San Diego
San Diego, CA 92101
Looking for some great Mexican food? Whether you're looking for a good breakfast burrito, a plate of steaming hot rice and beans, or a chile relleno, San Diego has a lot to offer. I have lived here in San Diego for over fifteen years. Along the years, I've found some very good Mexican eateries. Here are some that I would recommend.

Jalisco Café
1669 Palm Avenue, Imperial Beach 91932
619-575-4955

4026 Bonita Road, Bonita 91902
619-267-7855

The food at Jalisco Café tastes so good you feel like you're dining in the heart of Mexico. I found Jalisco's one day while driving through Imperial Beach. Since I found the place, I've dined there about once a month. The staff there is incredibly nice and warm. Their service is efficient. The food is served quickly and tastes incredible every time. You walk into the restaurant and you can sit anywhere you like. A server is immediately at your side with some of the best freshly made chips and salsa you'll ever find. I have had almost every item on their menu and have found them all delicious. Their rice and beans perfectly complement all their different choices of tacos and taquitos. Their chile rellenos are the best this side of Mexico. Jalisco Café offers great prices for their incredible food. Two people can have wonderfully cooked meals for $14.

Jilberto's
3305 Palm Avenue, San Diego 92154
619-423-8548

Jilberto's is a take out place. They have great food and efficient service. Hungry one night after a late work shift, I found this place. It's open until 2am from Sunday through Thursday, and it's open 24 hours on the weekends. On my first trip there, I had a breakfast burritos. It was fantastic. Whether you like just eggs, cheese, and potatoes or you want to make the meal stick a little longer with some chorizo, the large breakfast burrito Jilberto's serves is a great meal for only three dollars. Jiliberto's serves incredible Mexican food throughout the day. Their pollo asado (barbecued chicken) tacos are excellent and perfect with rice and beans. One of the best things on Jilberto's menu is their carne asada (barbecued beef) fries. Get it with just fries, cheese, and carne asada or get it topped with sour cream and some guacamole. The serving of carne asada fries you get is so big you'll have seconds for later or enough to share with your friend, spouse, or coworker.

La Fiesta Restaurant
628 5th Avenue, San Diego 92101
866-839-1609

The La Fiesta Restaurant is in downtown San Diego, within walking distance of the Convention Center. The food and atmosphere at La Fiesta is reminiscent of Puerto Vallarta or Acapulco - festive and fun. This is a more upscale restaurant perfect for a special occasion. La Fiesta offers nearly 70 different reposado tequilas. Their chips and salsa are always freshly made. Their meals are delicious. Their grilled steak is served with an exotic Mexican salsa. The large shrimp are fantastically prepared - they are stuffed with crabmeat and wrapped in bacon. They also have great dessert. My personal favorite is their rich flan. The staff is friendly, and the service is very efficient.
