Great Moments in Modern NASCAR Racing

Probably you love researching the history of NASCAR or you just want to relish the great moments in today's racing. There are thousands of options available today on how you can learn about your favorite sport. Note that you may search for more great moments online where you get to even see the pictures and videos in sites such as Youtube. Books and documentaries are also another great source of information.

The following however, are among the most memorable moments that you as a fan ought to know about. 2007 was a memorable year for NASCAR lovers. This is when a brand new car, known as Car of Tomorrow (COT) was introduced to the market. Lovers had a moment to see the car when it was raced part time during the 2007 NASCAR race season. In the same year, NASCAR declared that (COT) would be raced fulltime during the 2008 race season.

2004 marked another memorable moment in the history of NASCAR. The year's racing was proudly sponsored by Nextel; marking the end of the Winston Cup Series and the beginning of the Nextel Cup series. Later on in 2007, NASCAR announced that the NASCAR Cup Series would assume the name NASCAR Sprint Cup Series because of the merging of Sprint and Nextel cell phone providers who assumed premier sponsorship.

The preceding year, 2003, Kurt Bush came second to Rick Craven who won the race in the closest finish ever in the history of NASCAR. This was at the Carolina Dodge Dealers 400 race. According to NASCAR, this finish was the closest race ever since the incorporation of electronic scoring in the sport's system. To fans, this was an amazing moment because close finishes at a NASCAR race event provides real joy and excitement.

2002 saw Sterling Marlin receive a penalty for violating NASCAR rules at the Daytona 500. Sterling received the penalty for getting out of his car and repairing it under a red flag. It was a shock and a surprise to fans and his fellow drivers alike.

Two years before that, in 2000, Bobby Labonte won both the NASCAR Winston Cup Championship and the BUSCH Championships which have changed names since then. On the same note, it is important to note that Bobby and his brother Terry Labonte have both made history in NASCAR races for being the first professional racers to hold a championship.

Another unforgettable moment, although not a 'great' moment for the NASCAR world was in February 18th 2001 when the NASCAR family lost Dale Earnhardt in a car crash. The death came as a surprise to many people because the crash was not as horrific as other crashes experienced throughout the NASCAR sports.
