Great New Monologue Book

Moments of Truth: Monologues for Teen Girls and Young Women

There are a ton of monologue books out there. Some are collections of classic speeches from famous plays. Others are original monologues from various authors. But never before have I seen one that was also a workbook. Moments of Truth: Monologues for Teen Girls and Young Women (ISBN: 978-1-4357-1413-7) by Jennifer Tressen is a gem. It's thirty monologues cover a variety of everyday issues that teen girls and young women face. Some are laugh out loud funny. Others are heartbreaking. And then there are some that are just brutally honest. Never before has anyone been so honest in their writing. It's refreshing to read.

Each monologue is accompianed with a worksheet. There are seven questions to answer and a section entitled "things to think about". These are tools to help the actor better prepare themselves. The questions asked are sometimes obvious and other times quite deep and interesting. Mrs. Tressen did her work in thinking about what she would want asked of her if she were the one preparing for an audition. Be sure to read the introduction, she explains her reasoning for writing the book and also a bit about how to use the book to the greatest benefit. I highly recommend this book for actors of all levels!

I love writing. I write about anything and everything, basically whatever is on my mind at the time and sometimes it can be very emotionally charged....  View profile

I would agree that this is a great monologue book. Each different one page monologue is great for auditions and can help the inner actor in young women truly come out. Excellent read, I would highly reccomend this book for purchase :-) Well worth the $
