Great Outdoor Adventures in Utah

Ryan Barnes
May is a great month to get outside, especially if you live in Utah. Utah is probably the best state to go out on an outdoor adventure. The state boasts some of the most diverse terrain to play in during the summer months. Many people enjoy camping. Others just like to hike. Some people like to go spelunking. And still others like to go rock climbing. Indeed Utah has it all during the summer.

Camping is a great way to get out and commune with Nature. Depending on what kind of camping you want to do determines where you shuold go in Utah. I have a geologist friend that collects rocks, and so he goes to the harsh desert climate of Topaz Mountain every year. I have I have another friend that lives off of Fish when he goes camping. And he really enjoys going out to Strawberry Reservoir. I like to hike and explore so I go to heavily forested areas, such as the mountainous region west of Beaver City. Utah has any kind of place to go camping that you can think of.

There are great places in Utah to hike as well. Some of the best places are the national parks. Arches National Park is really neat. Red Rock, everywhere as well as natural arches that you can go explore, it's a great place to wander around. Another great trail is just inside the mouth of Big Cottonwood Canyon. You can follow this trail all the way up to the top of the mountain. Be sure to take a jacket with you.

One last trail I like to hike is Timpanogus. I like to go up there to go explore the cave. The hike takes about half of an hour to an hour, but it is simple and almost anyone can do it. You might even be able to bring Grandma along. But when you get to the top you get two rewards. One is a fantastic view. The other is that you get to explore the Timpanogus caves.

In that same canyon are some fun rockfaces that you can climb. I'm kind of fluffy and have a hard time scurrying up a vertical wall. But I have been told that there are many people that derive a lot of fun from Rock climbing. I've done some of those climbs. And then I found a quicker easier way to get on top by hiking around the rockface. It is a very fun place to play.

Indeed Utah is one of the best places to play outdoors. I wish I had the time to write up the thousands of fun outdoor adventures that you can have in Utah, but that is what a fieldguide is for. I would never leave home without one; because there are some really fun places in Utah that you could drive right past on the highway and never know about it. I highly recommend getting a fieldguide for whatever it is that you want to do. Rock climbing, rock hounding, camping, hiking, fishing, whatever, just get yourself a good fieldguide from your local bookstore.
