Great Outdoor Month Activities in LaGrange, Georgia

Amy Stepp
Thanks to President George W. Bush, we now have June as our Outdoor Activity Month. This month is set forth to let everyone get out and enjoy the beauty our great nation has to hold. In the United States we have all sorts of different venues that allow us to fully celebrate this month and I would like to tell you some of the great activities my own town has to offer for this terrific month.

La Grange, Georgia (Troup County) is a city located about an hour South of Atlanta on interstate 85 South. It is a great town that offers so many different places to venture out in the great outdoors. We are home to West Point Lake, a lake that extends 35 miles along the Alabama-Georgia state line and has 525 miles of shorelines that provide excellent fishing, hunting, camping and many other recreational activities. I am going to break down different activities with the main parks for those activities for your information.

Great Outdoors Month Activity #1: Camping:
Everyone knows that when summer approaches the best thing to do is utilize the most of your time outside. Camping is a great way to explore the nature because it allows you to see the natures beauty at its finest, either day or night.

In La Grange, Georgia our famous campsite on West Point Lake is R. Shaefer Heard. This campsite has so many services and amenities from boat ramps, playgrounds, hiking trails and many more. Just click on this link,

Now if you are more interested in some entertainment with your camping trip then look into staying at our RV Park provided by Hoofer's Restaurant. This is an awesome seafood restaurant that offers Gospel and Bluegrass Music in their climate controlled venue with a 162 full service slot sites for your campers hook up. Head on over to www.hoofers.com to book your stay during one of their concert events. You will not be disappointed!

Great Outdoors Month Activity #2: Fishing:
Another great way to enjoy the Great Outdoors Month in La Grange, Georgia is to head out to the lake with your pole and bait for an afternoon of relaxing fishing. La Grange has many public fishing piers that can be found at http://westpt.sam.usace.army.mil/

Great Outdoors Month Activity #3: Boating:
Tired of sitting on the side of the shore and ready for some water splashing up against your face, La Grange has two great Marina's that offer some excellent boating options. My favorite has to be Highland Marina. With a Marina store and Boat Repair, this place covers all that you will need to have during your boating excursion. Just click yourself on over to http://www.highlandmarina.com/ for all the information you will need!

Great Outdoors Month Activity #4: Hiking and Picnics:
What is better then lacing up your hiking boots, heading through the woods and then stopping for a packed picnic lunch along the way. La Grange, Georgia has so many parks, over 25, that offer everything a day use park has. http://westpt.sam.usace.army.mil/WP/parks.htm has a full list of all those parks with their amenities and services graphed out for you!

Great Outdoors Month Activity #5: The Beach:
Yes, you read right, La Grange Georgia has a beach in it. Located on West Point Lake, at Yellow-jacket Creek Recreation Area, you can pay a small fee of under five dollars to utilize their man-made beach for the day, along with their tennis courts, playgrounds, and picnic areas. I have used this place a few times and I will be the first one to say that a day spent at this park is a day well worth it. It is super clean and nicely mapped out for all your activities!

No matter which activity you plan to do, no matter which park or venue you plan to choose, and even if you are not going to be doing them in La Grange, Georgia, but elsewhere near you, the whole point of the Great Outdoors Month is to get off the couch, out of the house and have fun enjoying all of what nature has to hold. I sure hope that I have inspired you to try La Grange, Georgia during this great month, or any time of the year because I believe our town offers a large amount of places and activities that you will never be disappointed with!
