Great Pets for Curious Boys

Sarah Rachel
Little boys naturally have a curious nature about them. They have a sense of wonder that makes them perfectly suited for certain pets. These little guys love to play in the water or get dirty digging for rocks. The right pet can brighten a little boys world and open up new opportunities for learning. For instance, when a boy has a pet of his own he learns how to be responsible by caring for his little friend. Cleaning up cages, feeding, and loving are all part of what goes into pet ownership. When a child has his own animal he will develop a sense of ownership and pride because he will quickly learn how much joy a pet can bring into his life.

Lizards

Most little boys think lizards are the coolest thing on the planet. To them a lizard is like a miniature dinosaur. Young boys are fascinated by their scaly appearance and long tails. Many children even like to catch lizards out the wild just for fun. Before choosing a lizard for your son, be sure to do your research first. Find out what type of lizard he wants based on lifespan and other characteristics. You will need to know how large the lizard will get so that you can buy the right size cage and other needed items. Leopard Geckos are a favored pet among little boys. (All reptiles can carry salmonella so be sure to keep the cage clean and wash your son's hands after handling the lizard.)

Dogs

Dogs are well known as excellent pets for little boys because dogs are very energetic and loving just like kids. Each individual dog is unique so you will need to be sure that your child spends time with the puppy or dog first before taking him or her home. However, young boys need to be taught how to conduct themselves around dogs. They should learn to treat the dog like another member of the family.

Small Turtles

Small turtles make wonderful pets for little boys. These slippery reptiles mainly eat dark green leafy vegetables, and calcium chews. (Calcium chews can found at your local pet store or on line.) Boys love turtles because they are easy to hold and fun to look at. (Turtles should be kept in households with children under 5 years old.)

Birds

Birds such as the parakeets are great birds for boys. These birds don't require a lot of care and they are generally very docile. Little boys are fascinated with these colorful little birds. If you do decided to get a bird for your son be sure to buy at least two birds because they do tend to get lonely.
