As the saying goes, "Pizza is like golf. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty good." There are a few different variations on that quote, but this version rings true: pizza is good stuff. There are several places in the Sacramento area to get great pizza.

Roma Pizzeria

When you walk into a pizzeria on a Sunday afternoon and it is full of Italians, you know it has to be good. Roma Pizzeria is a family-run restaurant that serves outstanding pizza on a sourdough crust with a zesty sauce, plenty of fresh-grated cheese and generous toppings. They also have a number of pasta dishes, which can come the typical way or baked into a casserole. Service is always friendly and prompt.

Chicago Fire Pizza

Sacramento and Folsom

While the delicious, tomatoey sauce and tasty toppings help make this pizza good, it's the crust that really puts it over the top. Available in thin crust, deep dish, or their signature stuffed crust, the crust is light, flaky, and good enough to eat on its own. The deep dish and stuffed crust take up to 45 minutes to prepare, but they are well worth the wait. Order the antipasto salad to hold you over, and you won't be sorry.

Original Pete's Pizza

Several locations in the Sacramento area

Hand-tossed pizza with all-natural, house-made sauce. Pete's serves all the traditional favorite toppings and combos, with a few of their own creations, like Pete's Chicken Combo withChicken breast, bacon, red onions and artichoke hearts and a creamy garlic sauce. They also serve great sandwiches, pasta and a variety of appetizers-just in case you don't think the pizza will be enough food.

Mark & Monica's Family Pizza

4751 Manzanita in Carmichael

This Sacramento area pizza restaurant has been family owned and operated since 1986-a refreshing change from the many chains out there. They take pride in being family friendly and producing delicious pizza with fresh toppings, and the place is often packed as a result. They have nine TVs in the restaurant so you won't miss the big game while you eat. Try the cheesy garlic bread! They have a reasonable lunch special during the week.
