Great Places to Get Burgers in LaGrange, Georgia

Amy Stepp
Since LaGrange, Georgia is on the small side, our food options are limited. We do have a few chain restaurants around town, however our town is really known for the local grub. In the local mom and pop restaurants we have three great places to grab a burger from! Let me list them below for you.

1. Idle Hour Pub - 124 Bull Street

I am not one to be thrilled about going to bars, however if you hit up this pub in the early evening, before the party crowd does arrive you will find yourself in a quite atmosphere of good talk, friendly faces and great eats. The pub offers all your party food (I like to call it the super bowl party type food) from pizza, wings, onion rings, fries and the best burgers any bar has that I have ever been to. Their costs are low, the taste is great, and extremely generous on the portions. You will find yourself wishing you brought a friend just to split the burgers with! Call for directions or for any information at 706-884-1116

2. Rogers BBQ - 117 New Franklin Road

Yes, I know what you are thinking, "barbecue is in their name" however, the do not just serve BBQ but everything else your heart desires as well. Once you walk into Rogers (the locals will drop the BBQ from the name) you are entering a down home country setting with wood panels and a tin roof too boot. The walls are covered in John Deere and Coke collectibles along with many other items that come straight from the LaGrange streets. While you are eating at the table covered with red and white checkerboard tablecloths you will want to order their hamburger plate (you can add cheese if you want) that comes stacked high on hamburger buns lettuce, tomato, and onion. A side of coleslaw with pickles and fries piled as high as the eye can see. Top it all off with the best sweet tea I have ever tasted! Their food is reasonably priced. My family tends to eat there at least twice a month and with my family being a family of four eating (I can't count my 9 month old) we end up only doing about a $30 damage to our wallets and that includes some hefty portions that we end up taking home! Need more information then dial up 706-812-0041. They do have carry out, and if you are on the go, there is a drive through as well!

3. Charlie Joseph's - 128 Bull Street or 2238 West Point Road

This is a family owned and operated business that has been around since 1920. It has been reviewed by many and marked them with the saying " World's Best Hot dogs and Hamburgers" and that saying is definitely true. That is why I saved it for my last on the list because it is the best in our town! The original building sits on one of the main streets in LaGrange offering a deli style atmosphere. Two bars on either side of the cooking area in the middle. The other newer building on West Point Road is more spacious and easier to access. However, you will still see two bar style sitting arrangements on either side of the grills. The cooks at Charlie Joseph's will not hide anything while making their food.

Now, onto the menu. Charlie Josephs is the king of hamburgers. You name it, he will make it. Maybe he hasn't heard of it yet in the hamburger you are requesting but I am sure by the time you leave there, he will have a new item listed to the menu, even if it is just for you! Charlie Joseph's offers everything from your plain hamburger pressed on a steam cooker, to a cheeseburger, chill burger, double cheeseburger, DBL chili and cheese burger, and the famous JoJo burger that has anything and everything you can imagine on it! Pop a cold bottle coke, or fountain one if you prefer, back while enjoying your best hamburger you have ever tasted. The side item of your choice here is chips! No need to worry about overhead when you are being served chips. However, it seems to work. Most people think you need fries with a burger, but not this place.

Prices range excellent here as well. Most hamburgers are under $2, however the problem I have, I can never order just one. I am always asking for either seconds or thirds! Make sure you either come before the lunch crowd around 11 or after 2 and before 4 if you are trying this place for the first time. The other times of the day, both restaurants are so packed that you will not be able to find a place to sit! For more information call 706-884-5416 for the Bull Street location (the original location) or 706-884-0379 for West Point Road.
