Great Places for Dates in Simi Valley, California

Fun Dates that Will Grow Your Relationship All in Simi Valley

Nicole Mohr
My fellow Simi Valley residents, are you stuck in a dating rut? Are you sick of just dinner and a movie? Whether you are new to dating in general and short on ideas, or married and just sick of the same old things, Simi Valley, California, has plenty of opportunities for creative fun dates. Even if some of the ideas are not exactly within your comfort zone, consider giving them a chance. Stepping outside of your comfort zone presents good opportunities for great discussion and relationship growth.

One good way to add some spark to your dating life is to consider dating at a time that you don't normally date. If all your dates are usually at night, think about getting together during the day for a change. For that purpose, this article gives several ideas for dates in the daytime and nighttime. These date ideas also have something to fit any budget.

Daytime Dates

Explore the Neighborhood Parks

Rancho Simi Park District really does a good job of keeping up several quaint neighborhood parks. These are NOT the larger community parks that are constantly bustling with children, birthday parties, company picnics, etc. These smaller neighborhood parks are often much quieter. Bring a blanket, and find a nice shady spot. You can bring a picnic lunch, board games, or whatever. It's just nice to spend time together in nature. Visit the park district website to see photos and information about each park. My personal favorites are Frontier Park and Mayfair Park.

Ronald Reagan Library

Even if you are not political, much of the history found at the Ronald Reagan Library is very interesting. Try wandering the museum together, taking a photo on Air Force One, and the wandering the outside grounds. Bring a camera and take some photos of the view, take some photos of each other, have someone take photos of you together. It's a fun place to take pictures!

Underwood Family Farms

To be fair, this is actually in Moorpark, but it's really not far from Simi Valley. Located just off of Tierra Rejada Road, the Underwood Family Farms is a cute place to take your kids for the petting zoo, but the farm can actually be great for a date. It's a "pick your own" fruits and veggies kind of deal, and there is a wide variety of produce most of the year. The wide open fields are fun to wander. It's also fun to pick foods that you have always only purchased at the grocery store. To take this date a step further, you can proceed directly home to make a meal with the food you just harvested.

Dates for Night OR Day

Paint a Dream

Located at the Simi Valley Town Center, Paint a Dream is a pottery painting studio. Unlike Paint Pals (the more child-centered equivalent), Paint a Dream is smaller, quieter, and adult-friendly. Don't worry- this is not an attraction for kids only. This is even great for a first date, because it will give you time to sit and talk and get to know each other while you work on your painting.

Cooking Date

Although this may not be something you have ever thought of doing on a date, you might be surprised how much fun it can be. To make it feel more "date" like, find a way to do it out of the house. There are a couple of places in Simi Valley that make this possible:

Super Suppers is a meal assembly studio. If you are married or living together, this can be a fun date that is also productive. Basically, you go around the kitchen stations and assemble the meals that you want to purchase. It's cost-effective, and eliminates a lot of work and clean-up from at-home meal prep. As a date, it's a fun way to learn some new recipes, learn a bit about cooking, and show your spouse (or significant other) that you care about having dinners together. Super Suppers is a national chain, and a new store opened recently in Simi Valley on Los Angeles Avenue, near the Edwards 10 movie theater.

The Magical Kitchen is a new concept in Simi Valley. The Magical Kitchen offers cooking classes in all sorts of different cuisine. Go as a date, and you can spend some time learning a fun new skill together. Check the website to pick a class that looks fun for both of you. Although the classes are quite pricey, the food is quite gourmet.

Ice Skating

Easy Street Ice Arena has decent rates for public skate times. If you are semi-athletic, this can be a really fun date. You can hold hands, twirl, or learn to skate backwards. The romance factor can be greatly increased by cuddling while enjoying a cup of hot cocoa during a break.

Night Dates

Comedy

Inside of Coco D'amour, a new restaurant on Tapo Street in Simi Valley, JR's Comedy Club has become the Saturday night special. For $29.99, you get a full dinner and the show. (For $12, you can have just the show). If your relationship has not been feeling lighthearted lately, this might be just the thing!

Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center

There is nothing quite like live theater, and you don't have to drive to Los Angeles to get a great performance. Simi Valley is home to a group of very talented and dedicated actors who perform musicals and dramas at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. Prices are not too steep, especially in comparison to the nearby Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. Plus, it is a smaller venue, which means every seat is close to the action. For discount tickets, check out Gold Star Events.

Stay in a hotel

This may sound like a silly idea, but a night away from home can do a lot to spark romance in a relationship. When commitments keep you in town, but you can spare a night for a date, think about getting a room at a local hotel. Simi Valley has several great hotels.

Make the most of the evening. If you have time to plan this date in advance, see if you can get the honeymoon suite. Even if you are planning last minute, who knows... maybe this could get you a better deal, if it is still open. Spend a leisurely evening in your pajamas, without the interruption of telemarketers or noisy children. Enjoy the hotel's pool and/or hot tub, order room service and eat dinner in bed, order a pay-per-view movie. Even though you will still be in Simi Valley, it will feel like a little mini vacation.
