Randleman, NC 27317
United States of America
If your family is visiting the Randleman area, you're going to need to eat! There are dozens of restaurants here - amazing for such a small town. Please note that Randolph County is "dry", so you will not find alcohol served in any of our restaurants.
Breakfast and Lunch
Two restaurants stand out for breakfast and lunch fare. Roscoe's Randleman Restaurant is located at 116 W. Academy St. in downtown Randleman. You'll park in the Melvin's Variety Store parking lot, which is behind the store. The restaurant is directly across the street from the parking lot. The Outer Edge is located on Randleman Road (also called Business 220) between Branson Mill and Highway 62 in Level Cross. Both offer fabulous Southern-style breakfasts, including eggs, grits, biscuits, hashbrowned potatoes, grits, and country ham with red-eye gravy. Be sure to ask for cheese on your potatoes at the Outer Edge! Both Roscoe's and the Outer Edge serve lunch as well. You can get hamburgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches of all types. You can usually get breakfast fare for lunch if you want it.
If you're looking for a light lunch in an eclectic setting, you'll find it right across from Roscoe's in the old Lion's Building. At the time of this writing, the restaurant is still upstairs, while the antique store downstairs is closing. The plan is to move the restaurant downstairs. You'll find soup, sandwiches, and fabulous coffee there.
There are also several fast-food restaurants right off the highway in Randleman. You'll find a Hardee's, McDonald's, Wendy's, Bojangles, Subway, and Taco Bell all within 1/4 mile of the highway exit. Expect lots of traffic if you're stopping during school bus hours (7-8:15 AM and 2:30-3:30pm) - both the high school and middle school are right there. You can also try The Biscuit Company on West Naomi Street, downtown.
Buffet
There is only one buffet in Randleman, but it's a good one! Happy China is located on Randleman Road just south of town. If you take the Highway 311 exit and head back toward Randleman, you'll take a left at the light and find it in the Food Lion shopping plaza. You can eat from the fairly traditional Asian buffet or order from the menu.
Pizza
Randleman boasts three sit-down Pizza restaurants. Capri's is located in the Food Lion plaza, right near Happy China. They have some of the best stromboli in the world! Sir Pizza is a local chain with fabulous food. It's not uncommon for them to be very busy during both lunch and dinner! Sopranos, located in the Lowe's Foods plaza near US 220, offers pizza and many Italian dishes.
You can also order pizza for pickup or delivery from Domino's - one is located near Wal-Mart, and the other is located just north of Level Cross on Randleman Road.
If you'd prefer a beer with your pizza, you won't get it in Randolph County. Head up Randleman Road beyond Level Cross just a few miles, and you'll find Bill's Pizza Pub on your left. They've got great food at great prices and you can have your beer too.
Take-Out
If you'd rather bring something home to eat, Randleman has a number of fast-food restaurants and pizza deliveries. You can cruise through the drive-through at Taco Bell, Hardee's, McDonald's, Wendy's, or Bojangles. Most are open until late. You can also call Domino's in either Randleman or Level Cross for pickup or delivery.
You can also call Speedy Wok, which you'll find tucked into the far side of the Wal-Mart shopping center. They offer fabulous Chinese take-out, usually ready within ten minutes. If you order more than $25, they'll throw in a liter of soda for free.
Dinner
Believe it or not, this little town also boasts a couple of nice sit-down restaurants. You'll find Las Trancas in the Randleman Wal-Mart shopping center, near the Dollar Tree and Radio Shack. Their Mexican food is authentic and delicious. They offer a wide range of specials at low cost, plus several extravagant dishes as well.
Blue Mist Barbecue is located on West Academy Street, just beyond downtown. They offer barbecue along with a standard lunch and dinner menu at very reasonable prices, making them one of the most popular restaurants in the area.
The Wild Onion is a very nice, eclectic restaurant located just north of town on Randleman Road. They are pricier than the other restaurants in town, but the food and service are spectacular! The Wild Onion offers seasonal (non-alcoholic) drinks and a wide range of dinner choices sure to please the most discriminating palate.
If seafood is what you crave, you'll have to head out of town a little ways. If you go south on Randleman Road, it turns into Fayetteville Street when you hit the Asheboro town line. Go a few miles more and you'll see Mayflower on your left and Roadhouse Express on your right. Both offer an excellent selection of seafood, chicken, and similar fare. Roadhouse also offers some exotic dishes, like alligator and buffalo. Both are reasonably priced and give huge portions of food for your money.
Coffee
If you love coffee bars, you are in for a treat. Kaffinis is located just north of the Food Lion plaza in Randleman. They offer traditional espresso drinks, coffees, and smoothies. They're not a Starbucks - they're much mellower and nicer. They're also closed early on Wednesdays and all day on Sunday for church (which is not at all unusual in these parts, and we tend to like it that way!)
If Starbucks is what you crave, though, there is one within driving distance. Head up Randleman Road through Level Cross and keep going until you're in south Greensboro. When the road forks, veer off to the right on South Elm/Eugene Street. You'll come to the new Interstate 40/85 Bypass. Just beyond there is a set of large shopping plazas which includes a WalMart and Lowe's, along with several fast-food restaurants and a video store. Starbucks is in the first plaza, and it's a full-service store with drive-thru.
Try one, or try them all if you're going to be here for a while! You'll find that Southern charm and hospitality are very real, and many servers will say, "Y'all come back now!" when you're ready to leave. Randleman is a wonderful area to visit, and we hope you will come see us real soon!
