Jacksonville, FL 32216

San Marco Theatre 1996 San Marco Blvd

The San Marco Theatre, a classic art deco theatre, shows first run movies during the week. Every other weekend, however, is the old movie house's chance to shine as they show cult and art house movies at midnight Friday and Saturday. Movies start on time with no previews. Patrons can order beer and wine as well as sandwiches, nachos, candy and soft drinks. The theatre is located in the historic San Marco neighborhood.

Jackrabbits 1528 Hendricks Avenue

Also located in the San Marco neighborhood is Jackrabbits, the club where the national indie music acts play in Jacksonville. In addition to the music there is a full bar and a small game room. Make sure to bring earplugs because it gets brain-splittingly loud in the small club.

Fuel Coffeehouse 1037 Park Street

Historic Five Points is the home of Fuel, a coffeehouse/beer and wine bar. Play Wii bowling, take in or participate in an open mic night, hear a live band or even attend a political rally. Fuel also has wireless internet and great atmosphere, with the original antique metal ceiling tiles on the high ceiling, a painted concrete floor and big bold art on the walls.

Museum of Science and History 1025 Museum Circle

For the nerdy and proud, or those simply in touch with their inner child, the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) would make a great place for a date. See animatronic dinosaurs, ice age mammals, paintings, life-size models of oceanic mammals, a science theater complete with mad scientist who lets kids of all ages participate in demonstrations, live indigenous wildlife and Florida's biggest state history exhibit. Next to the museum there is the Alexander Brest Planetarium. Educational programs at the planetarium, such as a guided tour through the night sky, are included in the museum admission price or museum membership. Cosmic concerts featuring music and laser light shows require additional admission fees.

The Pecan Park Flea and Farmers' Market I-95 at exit 128

The Pecan Park Flea Market in south Jacksonville, off I-95 at exit 128, is the best place in town for a daytime date. You can buy used movies and records, check out collectible toys and soda advertisements, have your picture taken, get a custom silk screened t-shirt, look at and buy exotic pets or even have a name plate necklace made. The best part is that you will see every possible segment of society represented and doing their thing; the best place for people watching is in the food court while eating hand-dipped Blue Bell ice cream. Special events include car shows and concerts. Have a contest to see who can find the tackiest item in the market. It could take you all afternoon and will certainly fill any lags in conversation. For outdoor types there is also a stocked fishing pond outside. The Pecan Park Flea Market is open on Saturday and Sunday from 8 to 5.
