For individuals, couples, and families, the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument near Kearney, NE offers variety enough to entertain the most jaded visitor.

The main attraction of the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument is the spectacular audiovisual presentation portraying the history of the Oregon, California, and Mormon Trails. Through a combination of historical documents, artifacts, murals, mock-ups, narration and audio-visual techniques, the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument makes history come alive for the many visitors who pass through its door.

The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument features a three-dimensional walk through history from the days of the Pioneers to the motorists speeding along the Lincoln Highway, Interstate I-80 and beyond as designed and constructed by some of the same firms who created many Disney attractions.

The Great Platte Road Archway Monument is a reality that put Kearney, Nebraska on the map and provided an international draw.

The Great Platte Road Archway Monument was one of the drawing cards that warranted a presidential visit from Bill Clinton. It also drew the crew that filmed Jack Nicholson in "About Schmidt."

"One word describes our feelings of the whole Archway experience: awesome," said Joe Fonde from Langhorne, PA.

While many have visited the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument because of the movie "About Schmidt," others were drawn to the Arch for other reasons. "I don't recall exactly where we heard about the Archway, but for sure it was not the movie," said Joe Fonde. "We did find the website and learned what we needed from there."

What Joe and his wife Eileen gleaned from the Archway web site (www.archway.org) was enough to reformulate their travel plans to include Kearney and the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument.

Fonde said, "We were vacationing in Alaska and planned the Archway visit on our return to the Philadelphia area. We flew into Omaha, drove to Kearney and stayed overnight."

What they discovered made all the extra time and expense and planning worth the effort. "Our best memories would have to be the approach to the entrance area with the soothing 'Cowboy Music' playing," Fonde said. "Also, the staff was extremely helpful, and we were made to feel very welcome at the front entrance."

He added, "If our future travels should ever take us across Interstate 80 we would certainly look forward to stopping at the Archway again." In fact, he said, "Our photos have already plugged the Archway to family and friends."

His note of appreciation summed up the experience for he and his wife, "We would like to say that we have been to 44 of the 50 states, and abroad, and the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument is among the top 10 man-made attractions we have seen."

The Great Platte River Road Archway Monument entices visitors from around the country and around the world with its friendly, responsive staff, good food and an audio-visual extravaganza that will be remembered for a lifetime.
