Great Songs to Download for Your Football-Themed Party

Put Together a Compilation of Energetic Football-crowd Music

Ellen Mackey
Whether you're having a Super Bowl party or a football-themed birthday party, these are some songs that can get the whole thing rockin'.

When my husband turned 50, I hired the team mascot to come to sign autographs and pose for photos. When he came in pumping his fist to the beat of "Rock 'n' Roll (Part 2") the party's energy level shot way up.

If you want things super-easy, you can buy a CD from a place like partycity.com. But if you prefer to make your own collection, you can download your own set of songs from places like iTunes.com, Rhapsody.com or Amazon.com. Here are some good songs to use:

"Rock 'n' Roll (Part 2)" by Garry Glitter

THE football stadium anthem. Who can resist yelling "Hey!" to the beat? (When I turned the music up loud and said "There's someone at the door for you," my husband was afraid I'd hired a stripper to embarrass him. No, dear, it's only a guy in a horse suit.)

"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor

Can it get more macho than this? This 80's song makes you feel like you're in the boxing ring throwing punches.

"Born to Be Wild" by Steppenwolf

We're all carefree bikers as we belt out "Born to be wi-i-ild!" The first of heavy metal songs, when Steppenwolf growled "heavy metal thunder," they were coining a term for the genre.

"Rock and Roll All Nite" by KISS

Referred to as the "Rock and Roll National Anthem," this song gets everybody rockin' even if they're geezers who remember when the song first came out. As Homer Simpson says, "In the old days I used to rock and roll all night and party every day...then it was every other day.....Now I'm lucky to find half an hour a week in which to get funky!".

We Will Rock You by Queen

Stomp stomp clap! Stomp stomp clap! Best. Band. Ever. You may think it's just a simple party song, but writer Brian May now has a PhD in astrophysics and the sound of the clap has something to do with prime numbers and something called "non-harmonic reverberation." Score one for the smart guy.

"I Hate Myself for Loving You" by Joan Jett & the Blackhearts

Sunday Night Football took this hard-driving song and turned it into the opening for the show, performed first by Pink, and then by Faith Hill.

"All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" by Hank Williams Jr.

The quintessential "Let's all get together and have a beer" song, Hank Williams reworked it for Monday Night Football and opened the show for years in the late 80's.
