The City of Richmond and its neighboring counties has a number of summer camps for kids. The selection ranges from specialty camps to traditional camps. And, parents of children of all abilities have great choices for their children. If you are looking for some fun, enriching activities for your child this summer, check out this list of "hot" options for the long break from school.

ACAC Summer Camp

Sports and fitness is not all this camp has to offer. ACAC Summer Camp is an indoor and outdoor summer camp. Activities include arts & crafts, computer labs, drama/skits, martial arts, music, swimming, and tennis. They camps offer field games and has programs for pre-schoolers. Camp Baker

Camp Baker has a long history serving child with special needs. Since 1929, this camp has provided extraordinary support to child with disabilities. The camp, located in rustic Chesterfield County, offers a unique care and recreation experience. Campers, from ages six to adulthood, can hike, camp, horse back ride, dance as well as participate in arts, crafts and music activities. Camp Comfort Zone

Everyone deals with loss and its especially hard for young people. For that reason, Camp Comfort Zone was created. Comfort Zone focuses on the needs of grieving children up to age 17. The camp, part of one of the largest of its kind in the nation, creates an environment in which children can have fun, but also learnvaluable coping skills for their daily lives. Camp Jordan

Camp Jordan is a unique camp for kids with diabetes. This camp offers fun and exciting activities for children, who are learning to manage their condition. The world renown Medical College of Virginia, Children's Hospital and West Central Richmond Optimists' Club are all sponsors of this camp. The camp, established in 1966, is staffed by doctors, nurses, and trained counselors and is accredited by the American Camping Association. Easy Does It Ranch and Riding Academy

Easy Does It Ranch and Riding Academy is a camp that offers many worthwhile experiences.As indicated by its name offers western riding lessons as well as a horse rescue and rehabilitation program. James River Adventures: Leadership Canoe Camp

Leadership Canoe Camp is an extraordinary program geared for high school students. For those youth interested in the environment and the challenge of being "green" leaders of the future, this is a wonderful summer experience. Campers spend sevens canoeing the James River and sleeping along its backs at night. Richmond Parks and Recreation- Summer Camp Adventures

Westview On The James Camp & Retreat Center

This great camp is accredited by American Camping Association and was established in 1966. This camp offers many standard attractions such as archery, music, canoeing and rock climbing, but also offers bible study and its United Methodist Overnight Camp. Wild About Richmond Summer Day Camp

Two leaders in environmental advocacies the James River Association (JRA) and Maymont Park team up to offer this camp geared toward teens. The team of JRA and Maymont introduce campers to Richmond's natural side. Campers explorer the founding river, the James,. The campers also fish, canoe, hike, and learn about the funs facts about Richmond's natural habitat. Campers also get to have an overnight excursion on the Presquile National Wildlife Refuge.
