Great Summer Theater at Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, ME 2010

Tony Winners and More at This Southern Maine Theater

Nora Beane
Great summer theater options are waiting for you and your family at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Ogunquit, ME. It seems that each year it becomes a little more difficult to zero in on the kind of musical comedy presentations that used to play all over New England throughout the summer. The old time theaters in the round have folded their tents for the last time in lots of locations and the replacement summer entertainment venues seem to be overstocked with concerts geared for young audiences almost exclusively. Isn't there any place in New England that reliably serves up summer musical comedy performances any more?

In 2010, one place you can find summertime presentations of musical comedies that have picked up Tony Awards along the way is the long time favorite "John Lane's Ogunquit Playhouse". If you live in New England and have heard of Ogunquit you probably know it as a wonderful family beach town in southern Maine. But Ogunquit has much more to offer and leading the way is the Ogunquit Playhouse.

The theater season in Ogunquit is extensive and exciting. You can see your first show at Ogunquit playhouse as early as June 9, 2010 and still have a chance to see a major Broadway attraction as late as October 24, 2010. So whether you are in Maine just overnight, for a weekend or are planning a summer vacation in Maine you may want to look ahead at the theater possibilities that await you there.

The shows themselves are great, each show when on Broadway, won at least one Tony award for things like script, musical or score. There are no tucked away low spots on the 2010 schedule which includes: The Sound of Music, Chicago, The Drowsy Chaperone, Sunset Boulevard, and Spamalot. Or put another way there is something for everyone.

You can buy tickets with confidence in the quality of the performances you will see at the Ogunquit Playhouse in 2010. The long history of this well known theater is loaded with performances by big name talents who bring their aura to the ME stage for your entertainment. A theater doesn't stay operational for more than 75 years unless it delivers top notch productions.

If you are coming to Maine for a prolonged stay during the summer of 2010 you may also want to explore the opportunities offered by the Ogunquit Theater's unique Summer Theater Camp. What a great opportunity for kids who love theater to develop their own talents and have fun in the process. Theater Camp takes on students from age 5-18, divided into three age groups. Each camp runs for a full week and completes the week with an age appropriate performance for family and friends.

Maine is a state heralded for its woods, its lakes, its rock bound coast, its lobster and after you have had a chance to check it out you'll add the Ogunquit Playhouse, in Ogunquit, ME.
