Are Your Telephone Lines Dirty?
One morning I called her house and when she answered in a sleepy voice I couldn't help myself and I guess my evil twin came forth. I disguised my voice somewhat and told her that I was calling from Pacific Bell and that we were doing work in the area. I said that we would be blowing all of the dust out of the telephone lines and that the reason I was calling was I didn't want to get her house dirty. I asked her if she could please tie a plastic bag over her phone to catch the dirt. I then told her that I would call back in about twenty minutes when we were all done.
Twenty minutes later when I called back she answered the phone all out of breath. I told her that we were all done and asked if she had indeed tied the bag over the phone. She stated that she had been frantically searching for a bag but couldn't find one so she had run to the back door and was holding the phone out the door.
I was going to let her in on the gag but she sounded so earnest that I didn't have the heart and I think she still believes to this day that she was able to keep her house from getting dirtied by those Pacific Bell people.
