Take a River Trip
Big Dogs on the River is Athens' only river trip. Take delight in the Oconee River while kayaking. The river trail is 3.5 miles long and is expected to take two to three hours by kayak. Join Big Dogs on the River to celebrate Labor Day for live music with REPTAR.
$20 for kayaking, food, and music and $5 for music, food, and buy your own beverages.
Rock Climbing
Rock climbing can be fun for the whole family. Children and adults will enjoy indoor rock climbing at Active Climbing in the heart of Athens, Georgia. Active Climbing offers rock walls up to 20-feet high as well as 20-foot tall roped walls, and a 40-foot long roof traverse. Active Climbing also offers yoga classes, birthday parties, field trips, movie nights, teen nights, college nights, and ladies nights. Adults climb for $12.75 and children 12 and under climb for $10.75. Shoe rentals are $3 and harness rentals are $1.
Foodies Love Athens
The Five & Ten was claimed restaurant of the year in 2007 by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Five & Ten's chef and owner, Hugh Acheson was also awarded the finalist for "Best Chef: Southeast, 2007 and 2009" by the James Beard Foundation. Five & Ten offers a diverse food and wine menu. Georgia Museum of Art
Visit the Georgia Museum of Art located at 90 Carlton St. in Athens, Georgia. The Georgia Museum of Art includes galleries, a sculpture garden, and a museum shop. The Georgia Museum of Art offers a large collection including American painting, which is the focus of the museum. Admission to the Georgia Museum of Art is free with a suggested donation of $3. The hours vary for the galleries, sculpture garden, and museum shop.
Tour the City of Athens
While in Athens take a tour of the city. Many tours are available so the choice is yours. The heritage tour is 90 minutes long while the Museum Mile Tour is a two hour tour of the four house museums in Athens.
