There is almost always something going on here, if you are in the area just pick up the weekly newspaper and check out the current events. Depending on the time you come you can see some great things. In August we have the Garrett County Fair for a week. Then in October is the Autumn Glory Festival with a parade, craft show, and other activites.
We have quite a few state parks that offer great hiking or nature walks, swimming, golfing, boating, skiing, camping, or just relaxing. A few of my favorite places to visit is Swallow Falls State Park, Deep Creek Lake, and Herrington Manor State Park. There are also amazing views of the moutains and lakes almost anywhere you go. What could be more relaxing than renting a lakeside cabin and soaking in the fresh air?
When it's time for something to eat just stop by at one of the quaint restaurants that we have. There are all ranges from down home country cooking to fancier place down by the lake for a romantic dinner for two, and everything in between. I would recommend Willow the Wisp for a romantic lakeside dinner and one of the diners in town for homecooking. Or you could always go camping and make smores and roast hotdogs!
We also have tons of wildlife that everywhere you go you almost always see a deer, rabbit, squirrel, or many others. There are also lots of places to go fishing and hunting, you could even go bird watching. Just beware if any of the locals or friends try to get you to go snipe hunting. It's a fun little game to play on people who are from the city. It's pretty amazing though how many people you meet who haven't see a cow in person or who have never seen a deer. It's just a great experience for everyone, perfect for families or a couples just wanting to get away.
