Great Things to Do in South Texas

South Texas is very rich in culture, sights, sounds and tastes. The South Texas area consists of the Rio Grande Valley, Eagle Pass and San Antonio.

Here is a guide of things to do in South Texas.

The Santa Ana National Wildlife Refugee is located in Alamo. It consists of 2,088 acres of more than 400 species of birds. They have 19 miles of self-guided walks. There is also seven-mile bicycle road. They are open 8am-4pm.

The Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg was founded in 1967. The museum showcases the history of South Texas and Mexico from prehistoric times up to 1900. They have a new 2.5 million area that houses a sea monster and 914-foot skeleton of an ice-age mammoth. They are open Mon-Sat 10am-5pm.

The Cycle Ranch Motocross is located in Floresville. This 108-acre park attracts bikers from all over the world to appear in competitions such as the Western 4-stroke Nationals. The motocross park features a 1.7 mile track along with pewee and junior tracks for beginners.

Fort McIntosh is located in Hidalgo. This fort was built in 1848 by the Army. It remained in use until 1946. It was used as a border for protection against attacks.

McAllen is home to the International Museum of Art and Science. The museum holds five galleries with beautiful paintings, sculptures, model ship and classic art collections. View Space is a science exhibit that features images from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Rio Scape is an area outside that kids can learn about the journey of the Rio Grande River.

Los Ebanos Ferry is the only existing g hand operated ferry located in Mission. It can carry three cars and a few people. The ferry operates daily on the Rio Grande River.

The Shrine of La Virgen De San Juan Del Valee is located in San Juan. It is a beautiful shrine that was built in 1954. It was destroyed by fire in 1970 and an elaborate shrine was built in its place.

Smitty's Jukebox Museum is located in Pharr. The museum displays jukeboxes from all eras of the history of the jukebox.
