If you are new to Bowling Green State University, then naturally, it might take some time to get the hang of things. You might not know what days have certain specials on food, or even which parking lot has cheaper meters. Well here are some tips that should speed up the process of getting settled on campus.

Food

Bowling Green Ohio offers some pretty good places to eat; it's just a matter of figuring out where to go and which days to go on. The University does a good job of showing incoming students what on campus food spots are available. But sometimes, you might want to eat off campus. If so, it's good to know where to go. Most of all of the restaurants and fast food places will be located on the two main streets, Main Street and Wooster.

Jed's Barbeque and Brew, a sport's bar famous for their wings and Fireballs have some really good daily specials. On Mondays, they have the Fireball special for only $5. Fireballs are these wonderfully marinated chicken chunks that are covered with about any combination of toppings you can think of. They are delicious. Also on Monday's, they have taco's 3 for $2. On Tuesday, you can get 10 wings for 3.99. Pita Pit, located on Wooster, is a delicious and healthy place to go to get a pita stuffed with tasty meats and veggies. You can grab a pita for $5 every Tuesday. You can go to Reverend's Bar and Grille on Tuesday's to get $0.75 tacos, or go on Wednesday's to build your own burger starting at $1 between 3p and 7p. On Thursdays, you can grab some loaded nachos and get one free from 3p to 7p.

Activities

Bowling Green might not be the largest city around but there are still some things to do that will keep you active. You can go rock climbing in the Recreational Center Monday through Thursday and on Sunday. It only costs $3 to go each time and it's a lot of fun. If you decide that you want to make a habit out of it, then you can purchase the semester pass for $25 or the year pass for $45. Its open from 5:30p to between 8p and 10p depending on which day of the week you go. For more information on the schedule and pricing you can visit here

In addition to rock climbing, there is a beautiful ice arena open for students and the community. It only costs a few bucks to rent skates, and there are plenty of days out of the year that offer open skating sessions for everyone to join. For more questions about the ice arena schedule, you can call 419-372-2264.

Also, Bowling Green is known for its super affordable movie theater in Woodland Mall about five minutes away from campus. If you don't have a car, then there is a shuttle bus that makes a stop over to the mall. This movie theater shows new releases for a matinee price (before 6p) of $2.50 and adult evening price of $4.50. You can stay up to date on all of the new movies that come each week, and it's perfect for taking a date. To check for movie times, go to http://www.woodlandbg.com/movies.php.

If you are looking for something to do at night, most people usually just walk downtown, about five minutes, and walk the strip. There are a hand full of bars, clubs and restaurants to hop from. Most let in 18 and up, but there is usually a $3 fee. So in that case, always keep a few bucks handy, you can still get in, but it's just going to cost you a few.

All in all, BG is a really cool place to be once you get the hang of things, and get a nice, reliable group of friends. It's important to find people that you can trust and depend on because it makes a difference. Everyone in Bowling Green is generally nice and accepting. It's always good to keep an eye out at all times though. Keep personal belongings safe at all times as well. If you live in the dorm, most students keep their doors open. If you do, make sure you buy a lock for your laptop that will keep it stationed on your desk. There have been numerous cases of stolen possessions. One last thing, if you drive, make sure to note that any meters closer to the Student Union, will give you 15 minutes per quarter. The meters further away from the Union will give you 30 minutes per quarter. This is very important. If you get a ticket, it will go on your bursar account and it you get several, it could stop you from registering and dropping classes. In conclusion, everyday you can discover something new in BG; it just takes some time looking.
