Tip 1
Start early in life. The earlier the better. Anywhere from six months to three years old is a great starting point.
Tip 2
Pick a good time of the day. Make sure this time is when their minds are fresh and willing to learn. This would be around a hour after getting up from a nap or sleep. Make sure this is the same time everyday. Children learn best with consistency.
Tip 3
Begin with simple terms and sounds. Just as you would a baby learning new things like ball, cup, mommy and daddy.
Tip 4
Remain calm and relax. At first your toddler is not going to understand what you are trying to do, but if you remain calm and treat this project fun, then the child will learn easier.
Tip 5
Use visual aids whenever possible. Children learn best when they can either see a picture, video or hear a sound associated with words they are trying to learn.
Tip 6
A dictionary for that language always helps to have handy. This is to make sure you have the right word for the definition you are using.
Tip 7
Promote willingness from your child to use this language. When he or she asks for something or say some word they should know in the second language they are learning, have them use those words for those items.
Tip 8
Check for local support groups in your area. You will be surprised to know many parents are trying the same thing in your own neighborhood. You can draw support from them.
