Great Tips to Travel on a Low Budget

Roger C.
Most people would like to travel like a king when they can stay in 5-star hotels, travel first-class only, go to the best clubs and eat in the most expensive restaurants; but the reality for most of us is that we simply can't afford it. We are always traveling with a limited budget, and we can't spend all our money in a single night at a hotel. But it isn't as bad as it seems. Traveling with a limited budget is also a wonderful experience if you know how to do it right, so here's a list with some useful tips to enjoy your next trip.

While choosing your departure time, one of the best things you can d if you are traveling for a long time is to schedule your flights to be overnight. This way you can sleep through the whole trip and it will seem shorter and besides, you can save money on the Hotel for the night. Of course a plane is not the best place for a good sleep, but you'll save a few dollars and boredom hours.

Another way to save money is in food. Many countries, especially poor ones like in Asia or South America there are many choices of food. You can save money by eating in the locals in the streets. They offer delicious local food at affordable prices.

One time I was in Cancun, Mexico, I ate at a restaurant for about $20 and it wasn't even a great plate. Next day I decided to go downtown and I ate at a tiny local in a small commercial plaza. I had an excellent meal much better than last day's restaurant for just $4. This is not uncommon in these places. Countries in Asia and South America have excellent food for even less. You can grab a full meal for two dollars easily. It is a great way to save money and to learn about other cultures.

Depending on where you are traveling, you can save a lot of money by cutting down on the drinking. In some countries drinks are very expensive, so drinking less could save you a ton of money that you can spend in staying more time or at more trips. Money for drinking is no big deal in places like South America, Asia or Eastern Europe, but if you are traveling to Western Europe, Australia, Canada or even within the U.S., drinking can get quite expensive.

These are just a few tips you can take to make your journey easier and less expensive. Traveling like a king is nice, but even when you have a limited budget you can also have a great time, is just matter of knowing how to spend smart.
