Nelson Lake and the Remson Falls in the Adirondack Mountains
For a great mountain bike ride that is absolutely beautiful with spectacular scenic views that wind through the backcountry of the Adirondack woodlands, visit the Nelson Lake and Remson Falls area of the Adirondack Mountains.This mountain bike trail double as snowmobile trail #78 in the winter. The head of the trail is located at Nicks Lake State Campsite of Old Forge.
The North Lake Trails of the Catskill Mountains
This great mountain biking trail covers five miles of natural and unique habitats of the North Lake area of the Catskill Forest Preserve. Considered a moderately challenging trail, there are many demanding uphill climbs followed by descending trails that are invigorating. This trail is located off the New York State Thruway at exit 20, near Tannersville and Haines Falls. The escarpment varies between 1,800 feet and 2,400 feet and you can descend to 700 feet.
Vertigo at Plattekill in the Catskill Mountains
In a secluded area the Catskill Mountains there is a remote ski center that will take you and your bike on the ski lift up the Plattekill Mountain. There you will have the thrill of descending the mountain following one of the many trails that are used for skiing in the winter. There are more then 40 miles of trails that are suitable for all levels of mountain bicyclists. Whether you are an advanced, intermediate or beginning rider, you will have the time of your life at this mountain. Vertigo at Plattekill is located in the western Catskill Mountains about 40 miles west of Kingston.
The Taconic-Hereford MUA in Dutchess County
With 909 acres, this Multiple Use Area in Dutchess County is a mountain bikers paradise. With more than 11 miles of four-wheel-drive roads and many single tracks, cyclists can fully enjoy the hilly terrain with many steep slopes. The Taconic-Hereford Multiple Use Area is located south of Tyrell Road on the eastern side of the Taconic State Parkway. This area is closed to mountain biking during hunting season.
Upstate New York has millions of acres with a wealth of mountain biking trails throughout the state. Steep mountain trails, winding back roads and hilly terrain are enjoyed by mountain bikers throughout the state.
