Video games gifts are always popular during the Holiday season. Usually the most anticipated titles are released from September to early December, just in time for the holidays. Here's a sample of some the great video game gifts available for 2009.

Great Video Games Gifts for the Mature Gamer

Left 4 Dead 2 (Xbox360): The sequel to last holiday season's hit video game, Left 4 Dead 2 promises more infected, different locales and better online play. This First Person Shooter (FPS) pitches players against hordes of zombie type enemies. The release date is November 17th and is rated M for mature. Retail price $59.99.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (PS3, Xbox360): The game focuses on a squad of soldiers battling through such places as Brazil and Siberia. It features a new Co-operative mode called Spec-ops. It will be released on November 10th, is rated M, and will retail for $59.99. Modern Warfare 2 is a great video game gift for the FPS fan.

Great Video Game Gifts for the Music Lover

Guitar Hero 5 (PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PS2): The popular series returns with 85 tracks and new modes like Rockfest. Another addition is the ability to import songs from the other Guitar Hero games. It's available now and is rated T for teens. A bundle including the instruments and game can cost up to $189.99 . The game alone retails for $ 59.99.

DJ Hero (PS3, Xbox360, Wii, PS2): In the same vain as Guitar Hero, DJ Hero is an interactive music video game. With 93 song mixes, this would be a great video game gift for someone who is looking for a different music experience. It will be released on October 27th and is rated T. The most expensive bundle is $199.99 for the PS3 and Xbox360.

Great Video Game Gifts for the Whole Family

Wii Sports Resort (Wii): The highly anticipated follow up to Wii sports hit stores in July, but there is no doubt it will be among the popular video game gifts this Holiday season. The game comes with one Wii Motion Plus remote accessory. New sports include sword duels, skydiving, and jet skiing. Old favorites like golf return with more courses. It is rated E for everyone and retails for $49.99.

New Super Mario Bros. (Wii): The favorite classic gets a new life on the Wii. It's a great video game gift for parents who have grown up playing the original and their children. The new features include penguin Mario, a propeller suit, and a multiplayer mode. It will be released on November 15th and is rated E. $49.99 will be the price.

Video Game Gifts for the Picky Gamer

Sometimes it's hard to pick out great video game gifts. There are always gift cards to retail store like GameStop or Target. More video game gifts are subscriptions to magazines like Game Informer and GamePro.
