Great Video Game Ideas Not Used 4

Cross Over Edition 1

Andre Ratchford

Hello there, thank you for reading, this is the fourth installment to "Great Video Game Ideas Not used". If you haven't read my last three articles, I urge you to do so. Though it doesn't really matter what order you read them in. The main subject of this particular article is video game cross overs. Now, I'm sure that some of the cross overs I come up with, will be big hit ideas.

#1: Castlevania vs. Soul Caliber '" Now this one I think is pretty self explanatory, but I'll still give my input. I wouldn't really think of it was a game being Castlevania vs. Soul Caliber, but let's say Soul Caliber 5 featuring Castlevania characters. Who wouldn't want to see Simon Belmont battling Mitsurugi? Or a battle between Alucard and Nightmare? Maybe even Shanoa versus Taki? These would be great battles, and I know I would enjoy playing them from either side. Even seeing Dracula wielding the Soul Edge would be awesome. I'm just surprised that it hasn't happened yet. Namco and Konami need to jump on this, and get things put together. Then again, that might be one of the reasons behind Castlevania Judgment.

#2: Virtual Fighter x Tekken '" This is another obvious game cross up that should have already been done, or at least went into planning. Virtual Fighter was the first fully 3D fighter (that's as far as I remember, if I am incorrect, please correct me in a comment) and Tekken is the most popular 3D fighter. This pair up should have been done the instant that Sega went from the console market to solely making games. Now don't get me wrong, I'm greatly anticipating Street Fighter x Tekken and Tekken x Street Fighter , but I do feel that Sega and Namco both need this game. Heck, it would be even better if it were to be Virtual Fighter x Tekken x Dead or Alive , or another name that makes sense. Just think about it, the tradition of VF , the combos of Tekken , and the mayhem of DOA , that would be a great fighting game. And since Namco already has a nice roster, Tecmo and Sega could beef up their rosters with characters from their other franchises. The game controls would be best suited to play like Tekken , which would open up way more attacks for VF and DOA characters.

#3: Final Fight on the Streets of Rage '" This is another mash up that I think would be great. I know that fans have been asking for this for years, and it would be the ultimate way to bring back the "Beat 'Em Up" video game genre. I even picked a name for it, now wasn't that nice of me? Many fans of Streets of Rage , have been wanting to find out what happened to Adam, Axel, Blaze, and Skate (Sammy in Japan) after Mr.X was defeated. For Final Fight fans, we got to see Guy and Cody both continue their stories in the Street Fighter series, though not everyone was happy about what happened to Cody. That doesn't really show much of what happened to the other characters, though Maki was added to Street Fighter Alpha 3 at a much later. People would like to see Cody at least back in his old clothes out of jail. The idea is just so full of potential, it just needs to be done.

#4: Marvel Super Heroes vs DC Super Heroes '" Now, the comic series for this was short, and already done. But look, fans of Marvel and DC, as well as video game fans in general, have been waiting for the day when this match up would be put together so that we can play to our heart's content. Now, my suggestion would be for play to follow that of the Marvel vs Capcom series, specifically Marvel vs Capcom 2 . No offense to Capcom, but I have a very bad taste in my mouth from MvC 3 , and I would rather not play another fighting game that controls like that. These are two things to not do with Marvel vs DC :

No ever lasting float ability '" Playing with people online who are only concerned with winning and not the fun of the game, it gets tiring when a person can stay airborne for most of the match by repeatedly using the same exact move. Seeing Phoenix use that one move constantly which keeps the screen up from the other player as well as tracks them for damage is annoying. It doesn't even require skill to do it, which I figured out easily by going to practice and doing the exact same thing.

No multiple floor bounce combos '" I like doing the bounce combos, so I'm not saying that they shouldn't be used, but they shouldn't be allowed to be done in excess. It really gets aggravating when a player can knock you into the air, kick your butt, then bounce you off of the floor, and knock you back into the air to kick your butt some more. Then to be able to repeat until you are no longer left with health to fight back. Having it done once will be bad enough, it shouldn't be able to be done more than once. Players like me give their opponent a chance to fight back, it makes it more fun, but for players only worried about winning and getting achievements or trophies, it sucks life out of the game for the rest of us.

Now, I know this may seem like a bashing of MvC 3 , but it's not, I just don't like things that allow one person to control a game or match being included in the game. There should probably be a patch that limits these things to balance out gameplay. Now, back to Marvel vs DC , I do think that Capcom should be the studio to develop the game, but like I said, to play in the style of MvC 2 . Now as far as included characters, this is just a quick jot, and not at all intended to be thought of who should exclusively be playable. For DC Comics: Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern (Any of them), Killer Moth, Red Tornado, Lex Luthor, Joker, The Riddler, Darkseid, Captain Marvel (DC Universe), Wonder Woman, Sinestro, Aquaman, Beast Boy, Robin/Nightwing, Raven, Starfire, Cyborg, Terra, Slade/Deathstroke, Martian Man Hunter, Bat Girl, Super Girl, Hawkgirl, Strange Visitor, Mxyzptlk, Brainiac, Super Boy, Swift, Lobo, Orion, Takion, Buster Gold, Metron, Static Shock, Batman Beyond, and Dr. Fate. For Marvel Comics: Hulk, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Rouge, Gladiator, Blade, Dr. Doom, Ghost Rider, Cable, Comcast, Deadpool, Venom, Carnage, Rhino, Juggernaut, Colossus, Blob, Phoenix, X-23, Random, Avalanche, Spider-Girl, Storm (90s Version), Dare Devil, 8-Ball, Nightcrawler, Captain America, ShatterStar, Polaris, Quick Silver, Magneto, Exodus, Omega Red, Sabretooth, Nimrod, and Dr. Strange.

I know this list is lacking of a lot of great characters, but it also has a lot of favorites, and a few less used faces. Either way, I'd figure if they are doing this game, or are planning it, then my personal commentary on it won't matter anyway. And please, as fun as the game was, no match up of DC vs. Mortal Kombat again, it just felt so....odd. And I definitely don't want to see a DC vs Capcom either, Ryu fighting Superman is not an ideal battle.

Heck, if this were successful, which it would be, then it would open up other combinations, of maybe even a big Super Hero Brawl. Who wouldn't want to see Spawn battling Blade? Or maybe the Wild Cats taking on the X-men? Then again, the Ultraforce against the Justice League would be great too.

#5 Mega Man and Astro Boy : Now this I know I harped a little on in my "Mega Man" article, and it's still an idea that can be used. Now as far as playable cast, six characters as follows, Mega Man, Astro, Bass, Atlas, Proto Man, Pluto. Now where as Mega Man characters gain a new weapon, Astro Boy characters would unlock a new ability that they didn't possess before. To make things even better, Wily and Tenma would together create 16 robots for them to fight along with returning enemies of Mega Man and Astro. This gives an expansive playability to the game, that along with a 2-player mode would be awesome. It would still have to be in the 2D platformer style, but I think that it could be done, and executed wonderfully. Among all of the debate about which of these characters is better, I'm sure whatever side of the fence any player would be one, they would gladly pick this game up.

#6 Battletoads and Ninja Turtles : This I think is something that I want to see rather than it being something that lots of fans would like to see. I guess having Zitz, Rash, and Pimple teamed up with Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello and Raphael would be a great game. As long as it is an arcade style beat 'em up like the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game. I just don't know how the story would be set up, seeing as the Turtles that I'd want to see teamed with the Battletoads are the ones that had the "Super Mutant" forms. Which these would be the Turtles from the late 80s/90s cartoon series. Though I do feel if this were put together, then it would draw in a lot of fans, and players. You never know what you can do by reviving and reinvigorating older series.

Now, I'm going to conclude this here, not that I can't think of many more mash ups, but it would take me years of time in order to put them all together. By the time I'd be finished, well, most of them could possibly exist, so this is officially the first "Great Video Game Ideas Not Used" cross over edition. I didn't include Mario & Sonic because I've written an article that was dedicated to the subject prior to this one, it's "Great Video Game Ideas Not Used 3". As with all of these articles, I ask that you please link this to any video game related blog site you are apart of. Thank you and I hope that you enjoyed it.
